Interesting pick angle in this Vid... anyone do this?

I guess it makes sense, to go 90 degrees... instead of twistin your entire
hand around, to get the pick angle? This might be an interesting way
of naturally getting that squeal.

"Normal" is subjective. I sure don't hold the pick that way. If I did, I wouldn't get the tone the want nor would I be able to pick as quickly and cleanly as I want.

I'm not sure he is holding the pic at a 90 degree angle--looks like an optical illusion to me.

I looked through a few of his other videos and I think he's
holding the pic with his thumb and second (middle) finger.
Nothing new, that’s how EVH has done it for years. From what I remember, from reading the numerous EVH interviews,
it allowed him to keep his first finger free for tapping.

In other videos by this guy you can see him get pinch harmonics with the first finger.
What’s strange is, in watching his other videos, this guy seems to go between holding the pic between the
first finger/thumb and the second finger/thumb.
