bill, i felt the same until this past week. i gave "fwx" another spin, and it is really quite good. just listen to it in context of itself. i was really hoping for "disconnected" part 2. when i first got it i was bummed, but now i reallt like it.

as far as queensryche, i have been listening to "the warning" in the car. i love those older records - "warning", "rage", even "mindcrime"

but really, i don't see how queensryche was really EVER a metal band. to my ears, they perform(ed) operatic music using the sounds that were popular at the time....distorted guitars, etc. sure wilton and degarmo were great players, but nothing too amazing. i don't know, just my thought....
      GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

      and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Saw the Ryche two nights ago, my cousin who is a huge fan so I tagged along as I wanted to go to the OMC show a couple of years ago but missed out.

Visually and showmanship wise, they are not blowing anyone away, but they played great and Geoff's singing was top notch. The Empire songs were excellent.

Wilton did not look very happy at all actually, almost like he resented playing for us?

I was taping the show and ran into trouble right after the first Empire song, so here's Best I Can in Sydney from Monday night.

I've never been a fan of Tate's vocal style, but he really sounded good there. Not familiar with the tune, but he sang it really well.

Yeah I thought he sounded pretty damn good as well. I only heard mindcrime within the last 12 months, for some reason I never got around to getting it. It went straight into my desert island collection. Awesome album.

I saw them back on the Empire tour they did all the 'hits' off that one, plus the did the entire Operation Mindcrime front to back. They had lasers, video, theatrics, way more than i was expecting ~! Paired with their opening act Suicidal Tendencies it remains one of my top shows ever. It was that good. Oh yea ... Trujillo was with Suicidal at the time ... enough said ...

Thanks, I taped Ratt there the same way two years ago and it's a great bootleg too but the sound was more distorted. You get used to it, but this one turned out better than I expected. I figured the Metro was a high SPL venue, but I guess it depends on the band.

You don't even know Best I can Gary?....Blasphemy! Very cool song, Empire has quite a few good ones. I wish I had caught Another Rainy Night Without You on my good camcorder, that would have been killer.

Why can't they go back to those days???

I'm still thinking of putting a tri-ryche on a guitar I have laying around. Tribute to the band I used to love.

nope, don't know the song. I told you about my entire Queensryche experience, Vic. I got sick of Rage For Order (or whatever it was called) pretty quickly and gave the tape to my little sister. Figured it would fit in well with her Prince & Debbie Gibson albums

The only other time I've really heard Tate sing was on Stars & he was as annoying as hell on that!

                            cool clip dude

considering that their last album sucked balls maybe it would be better if they'd do a concept album about Home & Away

Tate's voice wasn't matured yet... he had a lot of range and power then and many admire that but I think it often sounded like crap... but on Empire for example his vocals are really amazing, he has TONE and character and doesn't over-sing/over-use those cliche heavy metal squeals.

Endrik, well put. By Empire he had the control down + the tone, what he does on that album is amazing, such range. He's still got it, which is a great thing.

Gary, get Operation Mindcrime and Empire, they don't go with Debbie Gibson!!!
