  • Italian virtuosos

I was just thinking there are so many Italian guitar virtuoso/shredders out there, it's got to be a genetic thing!
Well, maybe not, I'm Italian, but that's about it!

Anyway, here are the ones I know, in no particular order, can you add anyone else?

    - Steve Vai
    - Joe Satriani
    - Frank Marino
    - Al Di Meola
    - Chris Impellitteri
    - Luca Turilli (he's actually from my hometown of Trieste, Italy)
    - Michael Angelo Batio
    - Vito Bratta
    - Frank Zappa
    - Alex Masi
    - John Petrucci

Not to mention all the jazz cats like Frank Bruno, John & Bucky Pizzarelli,...

some of my fav. Italian-American guitarists are also Joe Messina (jazz wiz but known as one of the main Motown session players) and the great Pat Martino.

Argentina and Brazil are full of musicians who have Italian roots.

Italy itself has a ridiculous amount of great classical, flamenco/world music and jazz guitarists.... Carlo Domeniconi, Edoardo Catemario, Aniello Desiderio, Oscar Ghiglia, Franco Cerri, Peppino D'Agostino, Sergio Caputo etc. etc. not to mention all the legends from the past like Corbetta, Carulli, Carcassi etc.

many fusion & prog wizards... Piergiorgio Lucidi, Gianluca Mosole, Gianfranco Conti is often compared to McLaughlin, Giuseppe Continenza, Antonio Feula, Giuseppe Loriga, Antonio Feula, my pal Giovanni Francesca is great... let's see Daniele Gottardo is fucking sick technique wise... many instrumental shredders... Marco Sfogli is probably one of the best known outside of Italy, Fabrizio Leo is ok but I don't really about instrumental shredding, Manzani, Vernaccini etc. put me to sleep and some even make me puke like Fareri.

but once you invent Ferrari and Ducati you can't really go slow

Yah know a lot of those guys grew up in the Long Island/NYC as well as being of Italian descent.
Their is a Zeppoli stand that if you buy from during the San Gennero festival you will be afforded the opportunity to make a deal with the devil to be given the power to shred. Its true.
