but then again remember that in one of the very first episodes of The Sopranos... Tony said that in US military during the WWII there were more Italians than any other ethnic group representers.
It actually can be quite true, there were a lot of Italian Americans. I've read that most of them were petty fresh, either them or their parents were born in Italy and many of them were pissed because of Mussolini and were motivated to get their native land back straight.
But you know times change... Italy/Rome used to be amazingly powerful, so were France and Spain some time later... the most powerful countries in the world but now they just make the best food

England was a world superpower for hundreds of years, how do you explain their contribution to world cuisine?

        Bangers and mash?
Soaking toast in bacon fat and eating it?

        yeesh!

you see, England still is super powerful, I wouldn't start a war with them, they were never spoiled... you know Salami and all that tasty stuff was military food... Brits never could discuss which wine goes well with their meal during a battle, they just had to shoot and do other boring military stuff

Don't forget that hardly anyone outside of 'western world' (read anglo-american) was aware of this.
