Doyle is a great player with cool tone but it has always been mostly kinda Hendrix or SRV type.
With Roger Waters he had a lot different tone. Specially during Comfortably Numb. Interestingly he plays it with a bridge pickup. Very thick and fluid, with ridiculous amounts of sustain. And has some modern edge to it although all his gear is pretty vintage or vintage type.
The first solo starts at 2:12, the second one starts at 4:38 (trade off with Snowy White)
But here for example (Another Brick In The Wall pt. II) with a different strat and a neck pickup... more classic strat and Gilmour's tone.
The solo starts at 3:46
