Yes, Tate was a monster back then. The first Queensryche EP and The Warning rocked so hard. I still think Rage for Order was one of the best produced albums of the 80's, but you could sort of smell the desire for more commercial success on it. Mindcrime was brilliant of course but then I think it got so successful that the band wanted a taste of pop success and got away from the things that made them successful. They should have just stuck with cool riffage that showed off that they were all solid musicians and let the success come from people that dig that style of music.
