  • Any Cacophony Fans?

My guitar teacher just gave me the Jason Becker song "Air" to work on so I thought I'd check out some Cacophony. I've haven't listened to them in so long. Man this stuff is great. "Concerto", "Speed Metal Symphony" and "Go Off!"; all amazing. Isn't it great when you rediscover a band. I haven't listened to these dudes since I first got my Jackson 2 years ago. In fact the first song I played on my Jackson was "The Ninja".

So, anyone else dig these dudes? It has Marty and Jason, how can you go wrong?

"OK, we can both have Ben..joint custody. I'll have him on the weekends. We could go out in my Cobra and give people the finger..weather permitting of course.." -Bill Z. Bub

I liked the solo albums better, too. The Cacophony albums are far too busy for me and I thought the songs were garbage. Becker and Friedman made much better music when they were trying to write music and not just wank a dank shit. In my opinion, Cacophony doesn't do either of those monsters the justice they deserve.

I also like their solo work better, esp Marty's.

His current projects / shows in Japan gets bashed a lot in various forums, but I really like what he is doing over there as well.

For those who haven't seen it, he has / had (don't know if it's still running) a music variety show called "Rock Fujiyama". Just do a YouTube search for it, lots of great full length clips there.

I particularly enjoy the way he integrates Rock/Metal playing with the traditional folk songs of Japan.

Saw them back in the day at The Omni in Oakland and got to talk to Marty for an extended period of time before the set...nice dude, completely focused on playing...the albums are absolutely insane, couldn't listen to them continually, but they're good fun!

Ah the salad days of Shrapnel records. Cacophony and Racer-X went hand-in-hand like cheese and crackers. Those boys were pushing metronomes into seizure territory! For a minute, glam, metal, speed/thrash and whatever else kind of blended into a superhuman mosh of 128th note runs and harmonized by two distinct individuals at that! Right after that period in time, kids made a choice; either woodshed for 22 hours a day and get good like these dudes, or say fuck it, stop bathing, don the cheapest flannel and let your talent sink to pre-Mel Bay levels. The more B.O. the better too! Shampoo? Fuck that!

Know what? There were a whole lot more of them than us, and we lost...

                    But we still bathed!!!

I could never get into them. Perhaps it was the singer? It's been so long since I listened that I should really give it another go. I just remember hating the vocals. I love Jason's solo stuff.

Peter was a great singer IMO. He sang with Derek Frigo in Lemans before he joined Enuff Z Nuff.

Oh the song lyrics were absolutely terrible but I adore the instrumental songs. I really liked their solo albums too. Especially Marty's.
