Jeff is the new shred messiah..the shred continuum !

I can't wait for the new Nevermore!!! That's going to smoke!! It's the longest they took to put a NM album out. Jeff doesn't need anyone else in the studio with him. But it would be cool to get Uli or Ynwgie as a guest. Uli visited him at a hotel in Germany. Uli gave him some lessons and Jeff gave him one of his guitars. Uli told told me that at his show. Then Jeff mentioned that in a interveiew on youtube. I posted it before..I can't find it. Uli thinks he's incredible..that's all there is to say.

Jeff and Yngwie is Tim Owen's favorite guitarist and he's with Yngwie so I assume Jeff and Yngwie touched base. That would be cool..

I can happily listen to Jeff's playing like I would Herbie Hancock or John Coltrane or Virgil Donati - they're amazing, but it's not like I play the same instrument, right?

Absolutely. There so many other amazing players but they bore the shit out of me. John Petrucci and Rusty Cooley is so guilty of that. They're amazing but sooooo fugin' boooooooring IMO!

Jeff is a perfect balance of technical virtuocity and songcraft. But you guys already know my opinion. I'm tellin' you, it was like discovering Eddie Van Halen and Malmsteen all over again when I heard Jeff back in '96. ..and I ALWAYS stayed "in the know" of shreddage. Searching..,waiting for the next big one. He has arrived..and I told him that at a time when there was NO metal/guitar scene whatsoever !!!

So, is he gonna die for the sins of nu metal bands?

How can you guys say you want to give up after listening to Jeff? When I listen to his solo work or especially Nevermore, it makes me want to play guitar. For some reason, his playing really inspires me.

I think it's because some of us is in our mid to late 40's and finally reached a cozy intox Eddie Van Halen level ..then here comes Jeff Loomis.

How I play in the last 10 years was inspired by Jeff. It was hard for me to get over 20 years of VH impressions.

Before Jeff came along ..I sounded so "dated". I have old tapes of me, and even tho I was a faster player ..it just sounds like Cambell's Classic 80's Shred Soup. I sounded like Vinnie Vincent in a Nitro tribute band before Jeff Came along. ..truth

Yes, his work is inspiring. I (attempt to) play some of his solos. I use them for exercise in control. He's also inspired me to want to try out 7 strings. I'm getting a job so I can get one.

However there is a demoralizing aspect in thinking how much work it would take to get to his level.

                          Yes..

I would also like a JL model too. Uli has one Ya'know. Did I mention that? Good, I mentioned it again.

That's the thing... I don't even bother trying because I'm not really a shredder in that respect. He just plays at such a high level (even live), that it makes me want to practice.

Another thing he has going for him is that you can tell that his playing isn't forced. It seems very natural to him to play those intricate, fast solos and rhythm parts, just like Malmsteen, Macalpine, Friedman, Gilbert, Becker, etc... Other guys sound like they are trying too hard to be bad asses. Batio and Cooley come to mind.

During that roundtable interview that was posted, Cooley said he wants to jam with Jeff. I really hope that Rusty isn't thinking about trying out for the vacant guitar spot in Nevermore. It would ruin the band IMO.

As much of as I don't really like Rustey Cooley..You never know what you could get, Rustey's chops are boring..But, he's got chops, and that might lite a fire under Jeff's ass..Not that he needs one, but still.. The end result could actually be cool.

and the Nevermorey goodness might bleed into Rusty's system & he might start using his phenomal cosmic powers for good.
