Dave plays better than minor solos, and i do agree dave is a better PLAYER (between him and hetfield) and i will fight ANYONE on that, but james does have a tighther sound.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

will all due respect to the posters and their opinions, i think its pointless to point out other guitar players in a hetfield "apreciation" thread, its not like the OP is stating that he is the best of the best or something like that...dont misunderstand me, Hetfield its what it is, an Icon and someone who has his huge mark on the heavy metal music as we know and listen today! that is something you cant deny...

but i must say that the hetfield guitar sound on DM sounds rather weak =/ i wish he could bring back that "black album" crushing guitar sound...

I agree that James is an unreal guitar player, but to me just as good as his guita work is, is his lyrics.....I don't think many people can hang with not only his guitar playing, but writing lyrics that fit into the complex rythem but also make them sound good and stand on thier own...

James is the thruth, so many great riffs in the Metallica catalog.

And I've heard James play all of Dragon Force's stuff on an acoustic, so he can do it all.

Hetfield is indeed a master of tightness. I still can't really play that riff in Damage, Inc.

Mustaine is a master of hard riffs but once you get the groove down they're not too bad.

Loomis rarely plays rhythm parts, and when he does they're fairly standard "metal" riffs. He's always going off noodling in some arpeggio sweeps. Great lead player though.

Dude, if it's the sorta-breakdown riff in that song, then that's the riff that inspired me to make this topic..

If not. I am a tool.

That must be why I don't consider myself a metal player - I can't hang with Loomis's "standard" metal riffs I do try though

Yeah, really. The first couple albums when Jeff was the only guitar player, who played the rhythms?!? :ROTF:
