Oh what I think that guy was trying to say about Nevermore, was that it's like, a standard metal rhythm, not as in subpar or anything, just a straight forward "typical" (for lack of a better word) metal rhythm.

Jeff's got some cool rhythm shit, and I wish I had a 7 string just so I could learn all the Nevermore shit. I attempted to learn some of Born and it was really fucking hard... But leads is were Jeff really shines, and we all know that.

I consider myself a "good" guitarist, and could hang with any funk/fusion bassist out there. But I don't come anywhere close to my kid's rythm playing. In fact nobody I personally know does.

Jeff told me his favorite metal record of all time is "Ride the lightning". That was then..this is now. I gotta be honest, after listening to NM since '96, Metallica seems so sedate in every possible way. Sure, I give them their due. But it's like comparing an old prog band such as old Genesis to ..ummm .Symphony X.

I think the bar has been raised so far out of reach for many to comprehend. So, some bands/players are always a safe, comfortable fit. For some that bar stopped at Jimi..for others it stopped with Eddie..or at Yngwie. The bar never stops man..people do. I can't expect people that think Eddie still sound like a fuggin' space alien to "get" something like Nevermore. No fuggin' way..

It took 10 years for one of their songs to catch on..now eveyone and their momma is covering it. Look how long it took for Metallica to catch on. You never heard them on the radio when the ruled the metal world..now that's all you hear with their "Mandatory Metallica" bullshit. I discovered most people are at least 10 years behind because they consume whatever is convienent..instead of researching their own shit. That's why gay stupid dickhole trends exists. I hate my kid. I love him, but I hate 'em. I taught him how to play and he kicks my ass at 14 years old. He learns my shit and plays it better. I understand where you're coming from Billzbubzeepeeonme. I happened to crank some fuckin tallica a couple days ago and it was a nice nut that hadn't been busted in a long time. I usually say fuck em' they're a bunch of sell outs, but it felt good to crank some shit!

Definetly agree on the whole "bar", thing, I was having a conversation with a friend of mine the other day that about how there really is never going to be another "Jimi Hendrix", "EVH", or "Yngwie" because the bar has been raised so high, that , and with the shit on youtube and so many good players *cough Jeff* lots of people just go back to the oldies and think they're the best. I'm not trying to disregard them as being influental, because they are, but seriously, the 80's guys like Lynch and them lost their flow about 20 years ago, and need to pass the torch to guitarist that deserve the recognition.

There's also the kids that started playing guitar when they were like, 3 and are locked in a cellar and forced to practice 5-6 hours a day..They come out fucking machines, great on a technical level, but on the creativity and "soul" level, pfft, get bent!

I wish I started earlier, I started playing when I was 16 and I'm 18 now, it really bums me out sometimes because all my guitar icons were about my age when they were huge.. Meh.
