I am about to watch it, so I haven't seen it yet, but my guess would be that he's trying to emulate zakk for the time being. When it comes to writing and the "Covers" that come after he has written an album, he will start to sound more like Gus G. But for the time being he has to be like zakk for this show. That's what I feel.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

For Who Ever Cares.. This was a ONE OFF GIG.. Zakk is still in the Band.. They rehearsed one week prior to this gig...
I just watched some of the vids and its kind of odd to see gus with a LP ans EMG's. I like their rendition of "I don't know". I'd say I'd be looking forward to a new album more than a bunch of shows as I think ozzy hasn't got it anymore as far as live stuff goes. I saw him twice a few years ago and he just got worse and worse. Now, I think gus was a little on the subdeued side and didn't have the stage presence of wylde, but it was nice to see a more relaxed enviorment for a change with oz.
i watched the videos and I tried to take in account that A) there's a lot of hype being put into this and B) they guy hasn't really played with Ozzy yet C) there's no real way the guy is going to come into his own in one gig with Ozzy.
Having said that, I really didn't like Gus on that. I thought it was kind of cheesy that he played an ESP Whatever les paul clone (he should have played his signature guitar) the mix sounded very bad so I won't throw the guy under the bus for his tone through out that video but it was bad. For someone who just got a shot with ozzy he certainly didn't blow me away watching him.
Ozzy didn't sound that hot, but again do to the mix i'm not throwing him under the bus for it either. He did seem to sing with a lot more energy.
All in all it sounded like ozzy front a garage band.
Still better then what i could have done, it's just it's ozzy and really he's set the bar really high so anything less then amazing feels like a real let down even though it's still miles better then a lot of the bands out there. and really I shouldn't be cutting down Gus, i mean honestly how long did he have to prep this? for all I know he didn't know how to play any of it two days ago.
I will applaud Ozzy and Gus big time for jamming with that Japanese kid, that stole the show for me (what little video there was of him)
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil
I don't care much for anything Zakk has played on. I don't really like any Zakk-era Ozzy or any BLS. He is certainly a skilled guitar player but I just don't like his music - and the overuse of pinch harmonics in Sabbath tunes is downright obnoxious sounding.
As for his image, he's a poseur - plain and simple - but it's not certainly not relevant to the music.
I agree wholeheartedly with this. When I saw the video of Bark at the Moon with Zakk trashing it with his damn over-used pinch harmonics I just wanted to punch him in the face. (And not in the Dimebag/Blues Saraceno way.) He ruined my favorite Ozzy song.
I thin Gus should stick to his guns and not try to be Zakk clone. That would be little evolution to OZZY too, better or worse.
Well he was hired to do a job at this point, playing the BlizzCon show. If he actually gets to write and record that'll be another story, but for now his job is to do what Ozzy tells him to do - even down to the overuse of the pinch harmonics.
Time will tell, but I'm sure Gus wants the exposure to further his own career down the line. I doubt being Ozzy's guitarist at the end of his career is the top ambition of Gus' career, but it will make him more well-known.
If this helps Gus get more exposure for Firewind in the US, then I'm all for it.
Though I'd love to see Ozzy do one massive show where he brings back all his guitarists (alive) for 1 set each, and then pack it in.
Have Jake do his stuff, Zakk Do his material, Gus play the Randy stuff, Iommi do Sabbath all on 1 stage.
Maybe as a Pay Per view.
That wold be worth a good $34.95 or something.
+1
But I think the fact that randy is dead would make it a bad idea, because there is only one randy. Gus may be able to play it, but he's not randy.
But other than that, that is a great idea, would pay a full concert ticket price to see that on PPV.
