It all makes sense now, Lars kicked Dave out so he could keep his lover Kirk next to him at all times...and Kirk's first wife didn't divorce him because of the Black Album tour, she really caught him and Lars doing some naughty things in their bed :ROTF: But where does James fit into all of this? He was probably too drunk to care, and then Cliff was too busy actually writing music to notice...and the Metallica mystery is solved.

toxikdeth, I like the first two albums too...they just feel more like Slayer hadn't fully realized their voice yet with those two albums, but by Reign in Blood to me they had matured their music and style to a tee.

Grandturk, it's only Raining Blood and War Ensemble the GH kids know...they would never come to a Slayer concert though, their mommies wouldn't let them, and if they do end up hardcore Slayer fans...well then good.
Wow I just lost even more respect to metallica. In a muataine interview dave said lars once admitted having gay feelings for dave. Shit how couldnt i tell b4 kirk has such a little girl voice

I don't get the "Slayer will never change!!!!" thing.

They DID. RIB, Hell Awaits, South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss were all fairly similar in style.
Everything they did afterwards is different in style. I'm not even talking about QUALITY here, just the style of the music. Yeah it's always been heavy, fast, dissonant, whatever but anyone who's listened to the band for years can surely hear the stylistic shift from Divine Intervention onwards.

I was harsh in my first post in this thread - the only Slayer album I never bought was Christ Illusion. I own all the others, and enjoy stuff like Diabolus a fair bit.

But the modern stuff (i.e. Divine onwards) is certainly different to the older stuff.

They DID change. So saying "Slayer will never change, they stayed true to their sound all these years" isn't actually true. They may not have sold out, but they changed as much IMO as Anthrax have over the years only they didn't carry it off as well.

And now every song they release just sounds like everything else they've done since Divine Intervention. If they're going to choose a style and just keep doing it, why the fuck didn't the choose their earlier style, it was better!

I remember Dave Mustaine mentioning that in an interview and I always thought Kirk was a flamer for years.. It was not hard to miss especially where he always acted on the feminine side as well as acting all frail and weak.. :ROTF:

As for the new Slayer song I like it, sounds a lot better live *heard it at Mayhem Festival on July 12*, but I have to say Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits, Raining Blood and South Of Heaven were my top favorite of Slayer *hell happens to be their best work from the beginning*! :ROTF: I really liked Seasons In The Abyss but after that slayer got boring where you can tell they were just not happy playing together... I have to agree that the new song sounds a lot like Divine Intervention but it is not terrible....

        Cheers,

I don't think their style changed as much as they started making heavier production; for example both Angel of Death and Jihad are in E flat. But Jihad sounds much heavier. Yet, the playing style of Slayer is still lots of tremelo picking, whammy bar scream solos, and such. They also sing about the best stuff, murderers Nazis and Satan.

What has changed is their producer. Rick Rubin has been less and less involved than he was on Reign in Blood through Seasons in the Abyss. Kerry said it himself, Rick has been less and less involved as time has gone on and has referred them to other producers. Rick is actually famous for it he's done it to almost every band. Either he's not there or he has someone else do most of the work. Slayer also lost Dave Lombardo, but I don't think Dave had a very large part of songwriting other than the drum parts and maybe tempo suggestions.

They (Kerry and Jeff anyway) don't believe in God or Satan, but singing about the devil is just more fun...not to mention if they said they were Satanists then the magic christians would have a fit and try to get the band to be stopped from putting any music out.

Im sorry but satan isnt all that great to sing about I like it here and there but I like bands whos songs actually have meaning and that sing about more complex stuff. These bands include nuclear assualt, evil dead, toxik, intruder, and even watchtower. Satan is to stereotypical for me I enjoy complex bands with complex meanings its to easy to sing about satan. I enjoy songs about killing as long as they do it in a descriptive non "blah" way kreator does this well, as well as megadeth and vio-lence. Slayer does this well to. I do not support nazis in any way but I do like the way the lyrics are portrayed in angel of death. I found it interesting that tom is catholic. He has some balls to go out and say it he proboly gets flamed from some fans. Oh ya and my last comment fuck kerry king he is a decent songwriter but hes a shitty lead guitar player and a dick....But jeffs cool

Well I like the songs about Satan..I don't believe in Satan either, but that stuff makes great topics for evil music, it's just more exciting than the "good" stuff, it fits the music better. I mean I love Hell Awaits type stuff...I don't support damn near anything I listen to songs about, but it's just that the evil stuff always makes better songs. Some people think Satanic stuff is really corny, they've never listened to Christian rock Or pretty much any love song in existence

But I agree on the point that when it's the topic of every song it's boring. You gotta balance it out...like your food.

I don't know what pickups Slayer used in early days, but I think they're guitar tone recently has been utterly horrible.

True I do like hell awaits lyrical content and sometimes I do enjot listening to bands with satanic topics but not all the time. And yes christian rock is extremely corny but satan can be corny if you present it in the ways of tenacious D. Even venom seems corny sometimes and I just cant stand black metal. Well I like pre black metal like bathory but just hate true black metal ala gargoroth dimmu hamburgers
