Rusty is a very articulate firey mo fo..I have his Outworld stuff..where he's obviously going for a more progressive NM style and just comes up short with me. Great player, no doubt..he just doesn't have the hooks my pud requires for blood flow. Players in this kinda genre such as Mike Romeo, Carl August Tidemann, Marcel Coenen, Magnus Karlsson, and especially Ron Jarzombek have a delivery, writing style and approach that always holds my interest.
I'd rather just listen to Jeff Loomis..he da man!
It doesn't get any better than Jeff as a metal guitarist..perioid! But Uli Roth is the king of kings..IMO! But even technically gifted players with generic writing skills (IMO) such as Rusty, Petrucci ALWAYS have something to offer that just jumps out and grabs you..only problems with them is when it happens ..it's gone. They shift gears too much. They get a great thing going for a couple measures and it's gone. But I take something from those little moments that seem to few and far between with some players. All great platers have something to offer.
OH BTW regarding Yngwie. Y'know his style was completely barrowed from Jonas Hansson with both Johansson brothers in Sweden's Silver Mountain..neo-classical style and stage antics that including the 360 guitar twirl thingy. You can start with this vid to see what camp Yngwinator came from..and how he came to be and developed. He just refined what was in place like a mofo...same influences, same camp..Ritchie, Uli school..Silver Mountain 1982 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rjmc2...eature=related

But he's tuned half step down, I never use that fuggin' tuning so I guess in Eb it would go, C5, B without 5, G, B, EMaj7Sus2, F#, B without 5, slide, B and all the other crap described above.
As far as the following shit goes, yeah that's from a classical piece but I can't remember what it is as I've haven't listened to pre-19th century classical music for years.
