I was one of the kids who was 1-2 years into my playing when Rising Force came out in the mid 80s. Damn, what a monumental event that casette tape was.

I was in awe of Yngwie when I first heard the demo tape (through some friends in the demo tape scene of the day) he'd sent Mike Varney around the time he was joining Steeler. When the Rising Force album came out I heard what he'd done with some of the songs/riffs from the demo and was even more in awe.

No matter how big a dick he may be or how repetetive he may have become in his career, that 1st Rising Force album changed the landscape of lead guitar forever. Marching Out was sort of more of the same but it amped up the heaviness factor by about 10. To truly understand the impact of those albums you have to take a look at what kind of music was coming out at the time. Even if you look at just hard rock/metal you can see that nothing else was remotely like it. Here's a list of other hard rock/metal albums that came out at the same year as Rising Force...
