I love that chromatic lick that he's been playing lately. It happens about 26 seconds in.

          Awesome vid

Not only is the playing great, he talks about his approach in applying theory to get the sound he hears in his inner ear... fascinating stuff.

              What a legend.

I was one of the kids who was 1-2 years into my playing when Rising Force came out in the mid 80s. Damn, what a monumental event that casette tape was.

I was in awe of Yngwie when I first heard the demo tape (through some friends in the demo tape scene of the day) he'd sent Mike Varney around the time he was joining Steeler. When the Rising Force album came out I heard what he'd done with some of the songs/riffs from the demo and was even more in awe.

No matter how big a dick he may be or how repetetive he may have become in his career, that 1st Rising Force album changed the landscape of lead guitar forever. Marching Out was sort of more of the same but it amped up the heaviness factor by about 10. To truly understand the impact of those albums you have to take a look at what kind of music was coming out at the time. Even if you look at just hard rock/metal you can see that nothing else was remotely like it. Here's a list of other hard rock/metal albums that came out at the same year as Rising Force...

Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith
Loudness - Disillusion (2nd best album to come out that year!)
                Saxon - Crusader
Anthrax - Fist Full of Metal
                Steve Vai - Flex Able
                Whitesnake - Slide It In
                Lee Aaron - Metal Queen
                Europe - Wings of Tomorrow
                Ted Nugent - Penetrator
Ratt - Out of the Cellar
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Couldn't Stand the Weather (didn't like it at the time, love it now.)
                Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
MSG - Rock Will Never Die
                Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry
Dio - The Last In Line
Stryper - The Yellow and Black Attack
                Metallica - Ride the Lightning
                W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P.
                Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath
Queensryche - The Warning (one of my favorites.)
                Kiss - Animalize
                Dokken - Tooth and Nail
                Bathory - Bathory
                Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Armored Saint - March of the Saint
Gary Moore - We Want Moore - Live (another fave)
Keel - Lay Down the Law

Popular music releases at the time was stuff like Thompson Twins, Madonna, Smiths, MJ, Psychedelic Furs, Go-Go's, Wang Chung, Cars, etc...
                GTWGITS! - RacerX

What, you can't follow clear instructions like "Ya, this is what I do like this" and "I do like this now, and then like this?"
