But the Jackson's of old, now that's a different story!
Not really. They still custom build fine quality custom guitars, through the Custom Shop.

I think it's about right for the price, too.

In fact I think everything about the guitar, from the 3-piece body, to the poor-quality paint, the OEM Korean Floyd, and the fret work is about right for the price.

You put it together with that great-feeling neck (with a semi-crappy "production line run by semi-skilled workers" fret job) and you get a fairly cheap guitar that plays very good.

It's a great guitar for the price. It's not that great a guitar.

Wow what a dick! An expert I am not and never claimed to be! I just know a great guitar when I play one as well as an overated one.

These are some of the finest guitars I've ever owned, I would put these necks up against any other in the world and the only valid complaints are easy fixes......real floyd, different pickups(I guess but don't know why), different tuners etc. I guess I'm just partial to them but I don't see how anyone could play ANY Ibanez or realy anything else for that matter and prefer that neck over one of these.........If only they would release a prod model star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, the bitch might be when compared to the originals, or to a lesser extent, the newer CS guitars. If these don't qualify (and I understand why they dont), then I would suggest that you have posed a retorical question in this forum. YMMV.

I have to agree about the finish, it's piss poor; I can see two distinct lines (like it has wings) through the body.

The Floyd is OK as far as I can see, no problems in over a year of ownership (1st batch SD Style 1 in red).

The pickups, however, are posing a bit of a problem for me. They both sound hollow, can't think of a better way of describing them. The bridge pickup is harsh and the neck pickup lacks depth. So much so, I'm going to take apart my 2005 San Dimas reissue and see what pickup is in it and how they've wired it.

The neck is perfect on mine, no complaints.

I think you get a lot of guitar for the money, but for it to match a USA Jackson or earlier Charvels (including some Japanese models), changes have to be made.

BTW, do you think the pickups on this issue are budget ones? The Floyd, to all intents and purposes, looks like a real Floyd unless you know what to look for; are these Seymours budget pickups?

Hey, no need to resort to name-calling. I mean, you certainly tried to imply you are at least SOME kind of authority on the subject, and just did again, saying you know a great guitar when you play one, and can recognize an "overrated one" like the USA Jacksons you were bashing in your last post.

So, back a couple of posts ago, I stated my opinion that it's "a little bit ridiculous" to think that a $1099 production line guitar will stand up to a USA Select Jackson's quality.

Your next post stated that because of your experience with high-end gear and objectivity to see past the name on the headstock, you recognize actual quality instead of assuming that a higher price means better quality.

You then go on to trash the "almighty" USA Jackson that I claimed as superior, as being poorly built, and sounding like "someone was holding cardboard in front of my amp."

Sounds a lot to me like you were trying to be insulting to me or anyone else who might hold the opinion that a USA Jackson is a quality guitar.

In fact, it sounds a lot to me like your point was that if "fanboys" like me could see past the Jackson name on the headstock and not just blindly assume that high price = high quality, that they'd realize how "overrated" these expensive guitars are.

So, you know, I kind of took that as an insult to my credibility and pointed out how stupid it is to try and prove you know a quality guitar by claiming to buy several USA Jacksons with obvious manufacturing defects.

If that makes me a dick, I'm a dick. But you're pretty obnoxious yourself.

At least he's ruled himself out as a robbery suspect since he hates USA Jacksons!

I dunno about that, I think whoever stole my Soloists might hate guitars by the way they dragged them out of my house by the straps without cases!

You're still having nightmares about them tossing those suckers into the back of a white cargo van, probably while shooting up heroin and smoking crack, too.

Holy crap! The absolute meanest and funniest thing I've read in a long time. My apology to MakeaJazzNoise but Grandturk really hit that one out of the park. Sorry again and :ROTF:

No apology necessary... I'm over it enough to laugh at it by now, and I rarely take anything Grandturk says seriously (even when he's being serious.)

Now we have a Dick and a Big Mouth Asshole all in the same forum!

And I gotta agree...although I feel for Jazz and what he had to go through with his toys being ripped off, that robbery joke was a classic GT! :ROTF:
