New pro mod cracked neck!!!!

Thanks Mike. I am a huge fan of your work. I'm just baffled by this situation. Someone had mentioned that it may have had a hairline fracture during shipping and then with this crazy northeast weather it may have just blown up.

like I said that is just a guess on my part....but somewhere along the way that headstock took a hit

+1 to the thoughts that it may have taken a whack to the headstock. If it were a stress crack, it would typically follow the grain of the wood. i.e., Run lengthwise down the neck from low-to-high frets, at roughly the same height throughout. Instead, that crack goes against the grain, running from the front to the back of the neck.

Sorry for the bad times. Hopefully, they'll cover it either way.

Good observation. If some ham-fisted store tech put it in a drill press to drill a mounting hole, that could have contributed... maybe?

Unfortunatley, I cant see any way that neck would crack like that with string tension on it, just sitting there. The cracks dont even go with the grain. Id wager someone dropped it, knocked it over, stepped on it, or what ever. Possibly someone else living in your house and just didnt tell you? Is there any evidince of damage to the tip of the headstock or tuner heads?

Being that you've had it for a few months, I doubt a dealer or even Fender would think it "came that way" or got worse over time.

wow that thing got kicked over i bet.I never keep guitars in gigbags or on stands for that reason.a friend of mine learned the stand thing the hard way a few years back.he bought a brand new ibenhad s custom and you guessed it the guitar stand tipped neck broke almost just like that one

I put the wrenches on as soon as I got it. The guitar is kept in my locked studio that only I have a key to. I NEVER leave guitars out on stands. I took some pictures of the front and back of the headstock, both of which are blemish-free. Pics should be up soon.

Horrible shame. I agree with the others that it looks like she took a shot, but if you are the only one who has access to the room I can't see how that would happen without you knowing it. No cleaning people or anything I'm assuming allowed in the inner sanctum....

I guess it could be glued pretty strong, but yikes, who wants to deal with all of that?

The good news is there are necks parted out on E-bay all the time....if you're patient you might be able to bag one on the cheap, assuming warranty doesn't cover it....

Charvel won't send you a neck under any circumstances. You would have to send the whole guitar to them, then they'll put a new neck on it (if they'll cover it).

As for the damage, you put the tool holder on, but is there an indention in the back of the head in the shape of the big allen wrench?

I received a guitar once that was packed very well, but the tool holder was mounted and the wrenches were in it. The headstock snapped completely in half right where the bent part of the wrenches rested against the head. When I glued the head back together, you could see a slight dent in the paint the same shape and length of the wrench.

I haven't taken this guitar out of it's bag in a couple of months. Anythings possible. I have had no dealings with FMIC customer service so I don't know what to expect. These necks probably cost them next to nothing to make, so I am hopeful they will send me a new one. That would be cool.

If not, I can make a pretty dam clean repair on it for you if you have to go that route. Good luck though!!

Thanks Mike. My dealer is going to send it to Charvel tomorrow so we will see how it goes. I am fortunate enough to live near Jim Mooradian who is a SICK luthier and great guy. I REALLY appreciate your offer though. Your a class guy.
