Apparently you didn't read the thread...it's been made clear that this guitar sucks!

Seriously, I think they've done a fine job at mixing it up a bit and offering the players something different, with rosewood being the most significant addition IMO. Hopefully we see more moving forward.

Well, to be fair - I'll have to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod when I put 10's on it.

It only has a 3 way switch. So, you can pull the middle single and leave the hole open.

        • well, if they dont come up with a version I like, the good news is I can always snag a Fiesta red 1 hum and have my buddy repaint it for me..........probably candy red. hell yea. I am damn near talked into it already.

          • I don't want to be the killjoy but all these quarterly special editions don't really offer the customer anything different apart from more aesthetics and less versatility.

The original two humbucker USA pros offer more in the way of tonal options IMO. If they really want to offer more choice, perhaps Charvel should consider introducing other humbucker pickup models and, if they want to raise prices for some models, put a german OFR on (or would that bring the fact that the current one isn't to people's attention).

Other than that there is a lot more of an arguement to spend your spare grand on something like a nice Japanese Jackson V or Rhoads or maybe a Gibson SG/explorer etc.

I know these quarterly editions look nice but, in the grand scheme of things, that's all.

            • I always love these threads. There is always someone or someones that think the options suck and (Insert Company Name Here) doesn't know what they are doing. But if they listen to me they'll make millions.

Then I hate the argument that you should spend your money on something else if you got it to spare. WTF? What argument? Its my god damned money and I'll spend it as I see fit.

You would think they must be doing something right if this is the 7th batch. I bet they listen to their customers more people realize.

I think they listen too. Especially since they post in these threads (Hey Bionic!).

I'm liking the red, rosewoodified SD1 the more I look at it. I think the music store giftcards I asked for for Christmas will be going towards a down payment on ordering one of these. They're too nice to pass up.

I respect people's right to spend their money how they chose and I happen to think that FMIC has been very clever with the Charvel brand. I really can see the attraction of all these cool looking releases.

For me, I'd rather spend the money on something that really is different from what I already have. That's just my opinion.

                  Edit:

I'll take one thing back - the option of a rosewood board is a good idea for those customers who prefer the way that they perform.

                  • Versatility is overrated. What is versatile to me is having 9 superstrats with different colors. If the song is sad, I'll play the black one. If it's happy, it's tough to beat the taxi yellow or slime green. Ultra poppy? Trans candy magenta. Middle of the road? Pagan gold, seasick green, fiesta red.

Now that's MY type of versatility. :ROTF:

My versatile guitars stay in cases.

                      Agreed!!!

I've gone from having "do it all with a flip of the switch" guitars to "all of my guitars are essentially the same." I've figured out what I like to play, and what it takes to achieve that. So I like strats with Floyds and hummers. And for consistancy, I like them to all have the same electronics - right now, Super Distortions in the bridge, PAF style in the neck.

That said, I've got a Bluesbucker (P-90 type) in my SG, and it can still hang with the heaviness.

Sure, but I did intimate that the San Dimas style 1 2Hs were more versatile than the batch seven HSS and H offerings (IMO). Other humbucker options would be good too with maybe the possibility of coil taps, a tone pot and that german OFR for the higher priced version.

I love my '80s metal and have two superstrats myself (including my boring bog standard black USA Pro SD1 2H) but I also have an SG, an LP and an archtop which I use for playing other things.

I'm not knocking anybody for buying multiple USA pros. They're great value, have superb necks and are difficult to put down. I just think that FMIC/Charvel could now start to think about more variation beyond aesthetics in future batches for those who love the necks on these things but want something that bit more 'different'.

Let's see if they listen, as is being said, unless of course the consensus is that we just want more of what is effectively the same.

                        • I think the guitars are great players, and I am going to buy one. I am just waiting for the right asthetics to come along. its just personal taste. I already have a fleet of soloists now, so I wont buy multiple Charvels, but I do want one at least. so I totally understand the idea of the same guitars with different colors and finishes. I have 7 soloists, all identical except for color. some graphic, some trans, some solid color. I just like the soloist and feel very comfortable. I also have a few Fusion USA models and a DK1 for bolt ons. great guitars.

I am just waiting for the right Charvel for me.
