  • i will admit i'm a sucker for unique wood grain and to some extent will pay a reasonable premium over regular solid color paint. Wood is kinda cool in that its a living thing (or at least, *Was* a living thing) and no two pieces are identical. I generally find the really quilty pieces a bit gaudy but with the right stain/finish they can be extraordinary. I tend to gravitate towards flame maple or other unusual figured woods.

Nice figured wood is becoming harder and harder to find in sizes suitable for guitars, unless you consider veneers.

here's a pic of one of my guitars - its a burled olive wood veneer on this. reminds me of coffee as you stir in creamer. Two of my fav things: coffee and guitar!

    • H/S/S with a three-way toggle? I've never seen that before. A lot of people like the 2 and 4 positions of a five-way blade. When's the last time anyone even did a H/S/S with three-way blade? I just don't get it.

            It's SX that is Chinese.

Is that the Vernon Reid signature model? Its not even multi-colored like his old Hamers - that would have been cool.

                      • I'm right there with you guys that guitars over $2000 are over priced and a waste of money. More money does not equal better guitar when you go over 2k. You're paying for the name pretty much. I've never even spent over about $1500 for a single guitar and probably never will. Might as well flush my money down the toilet.

There's a member of my immediate family who will only buy brand name products. I'm not talking guitars, just stuff in general. She is of the mind set that if it costs more, it's better. She overpays for everything from coffee, clothes, electronics, and cars. It's a status thing for her. She wants everyone to know that she can afford whatever she wants, at the same time believing the quality is better. I guess the same can be said for some guitarists who have the money and desire to throw it away. I just shake my head when I see all the money she wastes.

                        • The way I look at it, me having more than one guitar is flushing my money down the toilet.

Might as well enjoy the ride.
