Yeah - I'm already sticking my pinky into the pickup's tape!

Sweet guitar, but uh.... how about taking a picture of your wife holding the axe?

Give it a couple of weeks and see if you get used to it... I can't direct-mount either of my Charvels because of the scallop on the cutaway (the ring hangs over the "scooped" part and it looks dumb) so I've just adapted to it, I don't even notice it now.

You mean the opposite? You can't ring mount because the ring hands over the scooped part...

I really like this rosewood boarded one. It would look good with those Chris DeGarmo daggers on it or some other graphic.

              Yes. I can't un-direct mount them.

What I do with my Warmoth/Mutt guitars is use a direct mount pickup, and install the ring anyway - the only cosmetic issue is no screws in the pickup adjust screw holes... and I guess you could install short "dummy" screws if desired.

In this way you get the cosmetic appearance of the pickup with bezel, but keep all the benefits of a direct mount pickup.

The perception that your tone is better.

I've A/B'd more than one guitar with direct mount vs. ring mount pickups - there is a difference for sure. Whether or not it's "better" or a "benefit" is up to the player.

If you ring mount that pickup it will sound different.

Maybe not better... but there will be more of it. Or less of it.

For optimum tone with direct mounted pickups, you have to use cryo-treated nickle-plated screws. Chrome or black paint just doesn't conduct tone as well as cryo-treated nickle.
