Quite possibly one of the finest sounding charvel tones I have ever heard!

I think his aggressive playing style is what makes the tone. It's like he uses his technique to drive the amp. This contrasts with the slightly artificial, distorted tones you hear on some '80s records that have had just a little too much production.
