I can't decide between a Charvel So Cal and San Dimas!

I kinda want to get a black So Cal and have an aftermarket white or pearloid single hum pickguard made and go with a Super 3 at the bridge. Sweet, simple and elegant.

Not loving Strat style input jacks mind you.

Then again the 2H San Dimas is pretty damm near perfect but would be better if the CNC router at Jackson "forgot" to route out the neck hum! LOL!

I am gonna pull the trigger on one of these in the next few days but am torn as to what to order?

If you really want a single hum, then the Socal can do the job as you said. Can you live with fulfilling the desire of a single hum, but having a strat input jack? For me, personally, the input jack could in any location and not be a problem. So for me, the single hum would totally outweigh the input jack style. I do prefer strat style jacks as side mounted ones often spell disaster if guitar meets floor somehow.

Your other option is a block of wood in the 2H Dimas neck pickup pocket.

I'd say Socal, if only because you can change the pickguard out should you ever need to. Maybe in three years time, you still have the guitar, love it, but fancy going HSS os S H. You can with the Socal.

I've got one of each. I'm leaving the San Dimas stock, but next string change I'm swapping out the So-Cal's entire pickguard assembly for a single humbucker guard I ordered from Warmoth. The volume knob is in the original place, and instead of the toggle switch it will have a Stellartone ToneStyler (I have a couple extra of these lying around, so why not?). With the ToneStyler, I can roll down the tone to a point where the bridge pickup will sound like a neck pickup, so I can still get the woman tone if I need to on that guitar.

Pictures and reviews when it happens. I just need to find some damn time!

I loveeee my So Cal, and I think that the dimarzios are a little more toneful in this type of guitar. I'd go with SD if I was getting a Jackson/neckthru and looking for a dark tone. The pickguard wasn't really my thing but it really grew on me and I find the input jack location comfortable as well.

I don't like single-hums unless they're rear route. I'd go with the San Dimas Style 1 2H or pick up the Fiesta Red single-hum.

I'm looking at getting a an SD1. I have enough single hum guitars. Now just to find a good bargain.

I had one of each, and went back to two San Dimas's...just liked the Duncan setup better...and I got a good deal on an HSS San Dimas that I couldn't pass up

Good Choice. I've got a Super 3 in my SD1 slimer and it really rocks. You can't loose with either model. My SC1 has a great liquid feel to it with the TZ and EVO while my SD1 has a more raw vibe going on. as for differences, My so~cal seems to be a tad bit heavier. that's the only big thing I can think of. I don't really mind the strat style jack.
