I'm in agreement with most of the others. Run away! Keep the paul. It doesn't matter what shape the Charvel is in, just the fact that he jacked the price up and you are nervous about it should tell you no. If anything The Kahler would drop the guitars value AFAIK!

I also agree that you should pass, but there's no way for anyone to help you with just that one pic. A serial #, pics of the back, closeup pics of front & back of headstock, neck pocket, neck heel, and control cavity would help to tell if it's legit, and possibly help to tell if it's matching parts, original paint, etc. Without any of that, all of this is total guesswork, and this is how people get ripped off.

One thing I will say for sure: your friend has some pretty cool guitars, but he didn't help their value by scalloping them. This is the third one so far, right?

Do you want the Charvel as a player or just a piece for your collection? It's probably a great player, if you like a scalloped fretboard. Keep in mind, it is going to play much different than your LP. If you are wanting it as a collectible, I'd say it's an ok deal at $1400, but no way at $2500. The scalloped board, added Kahler, and condition are drawbacks. The other mods aren't really a big deal. This guitar would not bring $2500 on ebay.
Also, before you do anything, you need more pictures and info on the Charvel to make sure it's legit. You cannot tell from that picture alone.
        Just my opinion.

Is the Kahler original or added? I couldn't tell from the OP. Guitar_Symphony, could you clear that up? Have you seen the back of it in person? Does it have a trem cavity cover?

Read my whole post...I'm not saying they don't exist...I'm saying, I haven't seen one. Show me one...anywhere..on any auction, classified, etc. I guarantee that if I do some relatively quick searching, I'll find you a 10K + Les Paul.

It's the "unmolested" part that's hard, unfortunately.

i have not seen this guitar in person..
                the kahler is orig.
which is a common thing..for those years of charvel..

if the guitar had a maple board..and v-trem
and was legit ,...id through 2500 on her any day..

the star body on ebay is a very early and mint example serial is 1xxx ...also has a v-trem and strathead..and its bright yellow

the most expensive charvel ive seen to date is the bc rich body charvel on ebay for like 10,000

the second was a charvel explorer on gbase for 5000.....its legit
but i want a strat with a strat head..
                i know they play different..
i have more than 10 diff guitars...i would just like one for the collection....to play and admire...
i think we would all have a music room in our houses loaded with guitars if we could
its my hobby and alot of yours..

                thanks again guys..

there is only a control cavity plate on the back.
so i think the kahler is orig.

it's certainly pretty..I'll give you that..but the scalloped board kills it for me..I'd keep the L.P. and bide my time if I were you!

The scallop job looks fairly well done from the pics and wouldn't be out of the question for me.
I would ditch the EMG's for sure.
This Charvel on ebay would pull $ 1000 easy any higher its a crap shoot.
                      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Really ? I find it isn't need or leveled. It was done by hand and probably no power tools or else the surface would be even. Looks like he went in there with a chisel. I guess i am on the same opinion though 1000 and less or bust! Fuck the EMGS lol :P

Thanks for posting more pics. If the paint is original, that could be one of the most unfortunate scallop jobs ever. Can't blame the guy for modding his guitars to his liking, especially if he did it a long time ago. Lots of people did it, which is why the unmolested ones are so rare & pricey.

for me if i dont like something dont care how rare or how much. kahler and scalloped board renders that guitar worthless, or close to.
