I have a 2005 v trem point and have had a promod(I have 2 that have the necks). The neck shapes are very different. pointy is a thin D and the promod is a C. The quality is higher on the pointies(so was the price by 50%). The finish on the pointies was much better but I fix this by sanding the promod smoother and applying new coats of oil.
hmm, interesting, i am actually considering getting a pointy if i can get my hands on one, it has the v trem too
i prefer necks with a bit of thickness to them usually, love the feel of my model 1, and my 3dr
i may wait for a floyded pointy to come along.
actually, thats another point, are the floyds on the pointys MIK? not that it would be a deal breaker though
The necks on the pointies are indeed a D shape, not too thin, but pretty much like the "speed neck" profile on the KV2 and any Dave Mustaine sig model.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
I've owned all three (including a model 1 pointy). I agree with everyone above, a 2005+ pointy is the better guitar all around. The USA pointy necks are thinner, much thinner than the Japanese model necks (even though both are pointies).
I think we've already come to the conclusion in your other thread that the promods floyds are made of dried solder. Should be an obvious choice for you, shouldn't it?
The ProMods are great guitars. But, hands down, the earlier pointyheads were even better.
We should make a list for the 2005 run....
1. All had three piece necks
2. Supposedly all were hand build
3. They were available with a Vtrem
4. The Floyds were German OFR
5. The had headstock truss adjusts
6. They had G&G cases
7. They had two piece bodies (as opposed to three or four on the production models)
8. Real tuners
sweet, thanks for the feedback!
definitely going for a pointy then. and i actually prefer a pointy over a strat head anyway : )
problem now is finding one i like, dont see them often on the bay at all, theres one now im looking at in ferrari red with a rosewood board & v trem. i'd prefer it to have a maple board and a floyd, but if nothing comes up i may just go for it and install a floyd myself!
