LOL. Certain Graphics and really desirable spec'd guitars aside, IMHO the days of the $5K s-head are done for now and have been for a while and the economy only has a little to do with it. The bottom really dropped out in around 2006-7 when 1) players who only wanted one or two finally managed to grab one, further shrinking real demand and 2) fender made cs s-heads available to anyone with a credit card (why spends years looking buy an old one and settle when you can order new and get exactly what you want on a relatively certain timetable). As noted, there are exceptions, but I am just speaking generally.
When push comes to shove, most (not all of course) old s-heads seem to have something about them that limit their universal appeal and prevent really big value (whether it be in the original specs, like graphic or body shape, or in the hack job mods which ruined so many). True a clean v-trem example will bring good money, but at the end of the day, unlike say the fender crowd, jackson / charvel guys are a cheap lot and for the most part, the actually selling prices confirm it! Just check out the classifies, a couple of years ago, that holdsworth probably would not have even made it to this board for sale as it would have traded hands quietly.
