So.. Am I crazy or is the only difference b/t these and the production models the cool paint job and schaller tuners?

Completely different guitars IMO. The WD Charvels have a different neck profile, custom shop RTM pickup, german OFR, a G&G hard shell case and, as you noted, Schaller tuners and a custom graphic. As much as I love my candy blue pro mod, my DeMartini smokes it every day of the week. So to answer your question, yes, you are crazy. And since no one else has corrected you yet, Warren spells his name "DeMartini".

The Custom Shop doesn't use CNC machines?
I'm not trying to knock the promods, I love mine and I'll never pay full price for a custom shop either. All the promod necks have seemed to have a very raw feeling. some extra sanding and some tungoil fixes that right up.

After that, you get into the "who actually built it" and "wood choice" discussions - and once there - I'm fairly certain "better" wood is reserved for higher priced models - it only makes good business sense to reserve the best for the top of the line.-------------------------

This helps.
Thanks Grandturk.
