  • Help me build a new Custom Shop Charvel

So I have decided to order a CS Charvel. I wanted to get some suggestions from people here, I know it's my choice but many of you may have had the same questions I have.

    Body Wood: Alder
Color : Vintage Robin's Egg Blue or Sonic they look close.
Pick up: I am thinking 1H duncan distortion or Dimarzio SD. Either Cream Zebra or double Cream with Cream Ring. ( I question whether going 2H would be better, but I don't play with the neck PUP much at all and I do have other guitars.)
Trem: Floyd Rose, recessed or not?
    Crome hardware.
Neck: I was thinking maple but roseword with a strat head would look nice also. I was thinking abalone fret markers on the board.
    Truss rod or not?

    Thanks!

    Model 2 Red

    USA Slime Green San Dimas
MIJ ProMod Candy Blue San Dimas
    Gibson Les Pauls
    PRS SC-250

Maple FB + 1H + no recessed OFR = Charvel!! Just my 2 cents
for PU, i will go for double cream with cream ring

Thanks. Any thoughts on the truss rod taking away from the vintage vibe?

Non recessed OFR for sure! Maple board w/pointy headstock. One hum. \m/
Two guitars are better than one.

NON recessed, i dont like recessed trems, i like the feel of the strings higher off the body. 1 hum or 2, i think 1 hum looks better but obviously a 2 hum is more versatile. as for fretboard wood, Ide go with ebony, thats only because i dont have any super strats w an ebony board.

A custom shop guitar order is all about personal preferences so, of course, you should go with your own. If it was up to me, though...

Body Wood: Alder is a good middle of the road pick.
Color : Subtle difference, but I prefer Robin's Egg.
Pick up: I'd go with H/SC, prefer the versatility of having a neck PU for more tones. Plus it looks damn cool. If you prefer hum-like tones in the neck, just go with a dual-blade like a Duncan Cool Rails. All cream with the Robin's Egg.
            Trem: Floyd Rose, non-recessed.
            Chrome hardware: definitely.
Neck: This one's a tougher call. I'd say go with maple for appearance sake, if dead set on the Robin's Egg. But I really prefer the feel and tone of rosewood, which would make me consider going with a different color, instead. For instance, a candy purple would look killer with rosewood. And then I'd change the PUs to all black.
Truss rod or not? In southern CA, I wouldn't worry too much about the neck moving. But if this bother you, by all means spec it at the headstock, instead. Vintage be damned, get what you really want.

            Good luck.

^^^ +1 to ebony fingerboard. Have a look at my robin's egg strat w/ ebony board.

thanks for the input!! I am really leaning towards a rosewood board and truss rod as I like the neck to be 100% flat. Perhaps Robin's Egg blue, Rosewood FB, pointy headstock in matching Robins Egg blue, 1 Dimarzo SD in Double Cream with Cream ring. Hard to decide with out pics!

Of course you would have a truss rod. What guitar would not come with one? Have it adjust at the nut instead of the heel.

sorry I was referring to the adjustment wheel at the heel so it can be adjusted without taking the neck off.

I does, thanks how did you find that? Perhaps Candy Tangerine as a back up color? I will be going with a Rosewood or ebony board as I have a Candy Blue with Maple pro mod coming tomorrow.

Ah, I gotcha. Either the wheel at the heel or the normal slot at the headstock like most guitars, but not the old-school heel adjustment where you need to loosen the neck.

This Charvel dealer has one for sale that is quite close to what you are looking for.
