  • The easter bunny hooked me up early...nice project...

i have really been getting into the star bodies lately and came across this auction.

snagged her after talking to the owner who told me there was a stock metallic blue job under the evh krylon...

so i started stripping off the spray paint and came to the blue.....

but it was too soft and i ended up going through the blue to a tan color....

then the tan lead to a pink metallic huge flake that was really heavily sanded....

    which lead to a silver.....

which lead to a pine green....

which when finally stripped left me with a nice surprise....

So i have a few ideas involving a trans and paint work to hide the few extra holes she has had over the years....who would have thought under all that mess this binding was hiding.

I am thinking trans pink/magenta with a pearl white/blue/pink rising sun and the japanese letters for rebirth or something similar to signify the rebuilding of this axe and hiding of the extra control holes that will be filled.
or the same trans pink with a painted black or pearl bengal striping over it.

      Hey, I recognize that guitar!

Official name is magenta burst, but my wife keeps telling me it's pink.

I love the color, but didn't dig it as much with the chrome hardware. It was just too bright overall in person. When I got the guitar I immediately swapped out all the chrome hardware for black. It contrasts really nicely with the bright magenta burst, and is overall more subdued (as much as a pink burst finish can be ). I love it with black hardware.

Even my wife who gives me shit about the 'pink' guitar agrees that it looks better with the black hardware.

Not sure what you were thinking about for hardware, but in person that finish with chrome hardware is LOUD. But to be honest, I've always been a black hardware guy, so I'm biased.

That wood grain is kind of ho-hum as far as going with a transparent finish is concerned IMHO. I'd go paint and graphics all the way! Rising sun maybe? Bengal??

I would have kept the finish in the semi-stripped state and called it "Clown Puke".

My real vote would be red with the jagged chrome plates like Akira's old ESP random star, except without the ugly headstock.

That's actually a decent looking wood grain on that slab. It would look awesome if he took the time and stained it properly.

You think so? Eh, maybe you are right.

All the grain is running one direction and it's decently symmetrical. The grain kinda reminds me of that 80's horizontal line body graphic with the varying line thickness... which kinda matches the body style. I think it's pretty neat. Put a LOT of effort into a nice stain job and clear it, and it'll look really clean and the binding will stand out.

Look at the front and back... that looks like a solid slab of wood. And if that's the case, you'd be hard pressed to find a slab body of choice old-growth wood like that for that price.

Any chance you could wet or oil the top and take a picture?
