  • what value pot does a san dimas have?

Just like the topic says, does anyone know what value the san dimas volume pot is? I think it's 500k, but not sure...

Actually I think they are 250k as they are pretty weak. I keep having problems with the toggle switch on my Slime Green San Dimas and Wildcard #2 as they keep phasing out unless you give them a nudge. But definitely I think they could be upgraded.

            250k ?

            I thought they had 500's.

            Wouldn't a 500 work better with a humbucker?

Dang, I guess I'll put in a 500k then. You'd think they'd put a 500k in for humbuckers unless it's just too bright for the guitar...

Btw I do have a meter, could I test it without unsoldering anything?

Yeah, it is 250K stock in the new pro mods and production models. I think it was done to curb some of the upper mid spike of the JB.

This could be why the Duncan Custom I tried in my Wild Card #3 and So Cal was a little lacking in highs and forced me to put the JB's back in.

I had a couple of EVH Bourns 500k pots that a buddy gifted me just sitting around so I finally put them in today after reading this.

They feel so smooth! I'll see what they sound like through my rig tomorrow, I've not been liking the JB for some time now.

May have to try the Custom again.

I just swapped the pot in my ProMod San Dimas last weekend. The original was 500k CTS. I replaced it with a 500K EVH. I love the low friction EVH! Superslick rotation, but stays where you set it.

Did you notice any differance in the tone of your pickup?

My JB tends to have a shrill high end and I'm wondering if the EVH pot is going to open it up a tad adding to the shrillnes.

Also, when I took out the stock pots I could not find the 250k ( or 500 ) rating on it anywhere. I did however find the CTS brand marking.

This thread got my interest because for some reason the JB in one of mine lacked any bottom end. I've since replaced it with a new CTS 500k and it sounds great now. I emailed CTS with the codes on the pots I removed and they said that they "appear" to be 500k made for Fender. So whatever "appear" means, go figure, they sure don't sound like the 500k's I replaced them with. I even metered them up and they were around 250 to 300.

The pot value wasn't stamped on mine either. I tested it with a multimeter. Measured 441k. My EVH measured closer to spec at 495k. Either way I heard zero difference in the tone.

I may be wrong here but I don't think the resistance value is a factor when using the pot as volume. I think it only matters when the pot is paired with a capacitor and used as a tone. (I'm sure someone with more than my High School electronics background can give me an education.)

Sounds like it could be either...anyone know if you can test it via multimeter without unsoldering? When I put in a 500k in my les paul(from 250K), it made a difference...subtle, but was more open and had more roar.
