I may be wrong here but I don't think the resistance value is a factor when using the pot as volume. I think it only matters when the pot is paired with a capacitor and used as a tone. (I'm sure someone with more than my High School electronics background can give me an education.)
I didn't think the 250k to 500k value change would be huge but even the Duncan website mentions that the JB has "a strong treble detail" and some folks use a 250k pot to "smooth out the highs".

This tells me that it probably does make a difference, what we don't know is exactly what value pot we had/have since most are reporting a 250k pot.

Did your stock pot sound quieter than other guitars? My san dimas with the stock CTS pot was quieter than my other guitars and the JB has the most output of any pickup I have! I never metered it though. I wonder if there is a difference between the USA production model pot values and the Japanese Pro Mods?

Also, do the EVH pots fit the San Dimas routes? I put a 500k CTS in mine but I want something easier to turn.

No, they all sound about the same noise wise but I have JB pups in all my Charvels.

I will say that my MIJ Pro Mod with a JB has the exact same CTS pot with no value marking but it seems to have a slightly more distorted tone.

I'm going to check them through my rig tonight and see what difference if any the change made.
Regardless, the EVH Bourns pot is super smooth and worth the switch to me. I ordered a few more without the EVH brand name and they are way cheaper!

This has me wondering about my first run 08 SD.
Just checked mine has a value of 515.

Do these Bourn pots fit routes or did you have to do some cutting?

Not sure but use a wood reamer $20.00 at Ace hardware. Go from the back if you have to enlarge the hole.

Yes, fit perfectly in my USA San Dimas, So Cal and MIJ Wildcard #7.

I used the EVH low friction pots which are Bourns. I can't vouch for any other brands or types.

As TX-Joe says, the EVH is a standard sized pot. not routing required. I do think it's more than just a rebranded Bourn speed pot. I bought a Bourn speed pot and the EVH at the same time. The EVH has noticeably less friction than the Bourn pot. Both we're much better than the CTS. My only issue with the EVH is that they are solid shaft only, so I can't easily use it in my strat unless I ream out the knob.

I ordered a couple of Bourn pots as well as the EVH but I did notice that the non EVH branded pots did not state "low friction" in the description like the EVH does.

I'm interested if you noticed the same difference I did. BTW: I found this tech sheet on the Bourns website: http://www.bourns.com/pdfs/PDB241-GTR.pdf

I have not received them yet.
The EVH are back ordered until the 26th and the Bourns have not arrived.
I only had the 3 EVH pots that were sitting around and just installed so I can't compare them. Def way better than the CTS.
