while we are talkin about parts i use schaller floyds on my san dimas charvels, but i dont care for the set screw they use for the saddle intonation where can i get six heavy duty floyd types to replace these kahler looking ones(they are rounded on top and strip real easy!)

i had an SD1, i swapped out the korean floyd for an OLD german OFR i had, really no difference. The old OFR was very slightly brighter sounding, barely if at all. IMHO i think chrome floyds in general sound slightly brighter than black ones, yes i know i maybe nuts. as far as feel and playing, no difference the bar on the korean one did have slightly more play but nothing i would make a big deal about. the fine tuners did feel a bit cheaper and not as smooth as the german, but it could also be that the german one was heavily broken in the fine tuners moved much freer, still nothing that effected function or tuning stability.

I used to think this was nuts, too. But I've come around to it in recent years. I agree there is a slight tone difference between the chrome and black ones. Even more than tone, though, I also notice a difference in attack. The black Floyds have a more muffled initial attack to notes, whereas chrome ones are more immediate (if that makes sense). Not much difference with gold, though. Must have to do with the plating material.

I have always thought this but never wanted to say it out loud as people might think me crazy.

Like Eric Johnson hearing a difference in batteries and stuff.

No you are not nuts the chrome plating effects the tone. the black has the warmer and the chrome OFR def has a brighter tone overall. due to the plating of course.

the 1000 series Floyd bridges are made the same and with the same materials as the German one. Floyd Rose just gets it made in Korea because labor is cheaper, But essentially it is the Same bridge. I did swap the trem arm assembly though and now that bridge is solid and plays just like my other guitar with the german OFR. I did notice that the base plate is a little thicker though. IMO I don't care where its made as long as it does its job and does it well. That goes for guitars and parts. Ill rock a squire proudly if it sounds and plays good ( and do, a highly modded one ) but that's not to say that some places make crap

Genius! I went to Home Depot and got these. Totally works. And it's great for the arms that don't come loose, because it creates a bit of cushion that I like. Great tip!

You're totally spot-on. I've got 5 Floyd guitars and the brightest, by far, is the chrome Floyd. Rosewood board and Alder Body, with a very hot pickup. Not exactly a formula for brightness. But the chrome Floyd is definitely brighter than black or gold. Gold seems in-between the two. The black is much bassier and a little more muffled, as it were.

Easy and cheap fix but if your arm does not have a pin it works just as well.
                    Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Anybody try this mod on a Jackson JT-580LP ? Those things are the worst about the bar loosening up.

I did it on my JT-590 and it worked great! I think it's perfect for any Floyd-type system.

So is the Korean Floyd on the San Dimas and So Cal guitars the 1000 or the Special version?

Do German Floyds do this or is it my man grease? Never had this problem with JT-580's or German Schallers come to think of it. PTFE tape?
My Schallers do this as well, just not as quickly. It's still an annoyance. Teflon tape would probably help. I've switched to Gotoh, so it's a non issue for me. Screw in arms are far superior to collared arms.

So it's mean to have the same quality parts as a German made unit? No pot metal or zinc?

What's the deal with the 2000?
