The deposit is usually there so in case you back out the dealer has already made his profit. I have no idea if Jackson will let a dealer cancel. At least that's the impression I got in 2005-ish when I was told that I was allowed to cancel a specific order.

    That's all I got.

    • I don't see why everyone is acting like their guitar should be a significantly lower wait time because it is "simple black on black". You're on a waiting list. Jackson/Charvel does not start your guitar as soon as you send in your order. They are not taking 24 months to MAKE the guitar... The guy in front of you probably ordered interference ghost flames... oops.

      • Grim- I think the point is 2 years to wait for a guitar is ridiculous regardless of whether they start right away or wait 18 months to finish the backlog in front of yours. 2 years is 2 years and it's too fucking long. I agree that the simplicity of an order shouldn't give it preferential treatment. But it sure as hell adds a little more sting to that insult of a wait time.

Well, I'm on the Decibel Guitars waiting list, and I was told it would be 2 years before I was contacted to start work on a build. This is one guy doing the builds, so I don't find that wait overly long. Obviously Jackson is not a one-man op but they receive a greater volume of orders.

It's not exactly out of the ordinary. Sure Warmoth can make you one in a shorter timeframe, but they deal in parts, have parts on hand, and receive less orders than Jackson. Not to mention quality. 2 years is long, yes, but I would be thinking more along the lines of "make it count" rather than "THAT IS TOO LONG". If you don't like the wait, Why proceed with the order?

I understand the pain, I waited for my custom too . Not trying to be a dick, just being logical here

            • I read on the Hamer Fan Club forum that the Charvel/FMIC custom order backorder is in the hundreds, they mentioned 600...I know it's a lot that's for sure.

I was quoted 8 months. It has now been 20 months. That is why I'm upset. Period...

Nope. 20 months and still waiting after being quoted 8 months.

I'm in the same boat. I was quoted 9-12, and I'm also at 20. Last month, my dealer said he got an update of December, but nothing yet.

                    • Seems to me, the best thing to do in the future is get someone elses CS Charvel...that way you see it, send the $'s and it arrives within 2 weeks!
Man, this thread drove me crazy...feel so sorry for you..i was lucky, walked into my local Charvel/Jackson dealer, and there on the wall was
HRF yellow/blue with matching headstock! Totally mint...no one had touched it yet..."Price"..(in 2010) $2335.00 ! My waiting time was the 20 minutes
to pay for it, and walk out... Shit Lee at GMW could have built you your dream guitar, in 4 to 5 months, for $1900.00 to $2200.00 ! IMO...probably
                      25% better quality...

                      • OK, I just read the entire thread.....Jesus fucking christ what a bunch of bullshit!

Bizness 101 says that if you have a high demand for a product...such as a custom order and it's taking on average two years to build...I assume because there is such a demand and the workers can't keep up....hire more fucking people!!!!!

I got pissed off just reading this. I just can't believe these knuckleheads would hold someones order for so long. What the hell are they waiting for? the tree to grow to make the body?

                        WOW!

                        • Well folks... After 22 months of wait time (when I was quoted 8 months), I have been informed by Curt at Squid Music that my guitar has been delivered. I am going to pick it up today and I'll post some pics later. Of course, the body is just primered as it is going straight to Dan Lawrence for a graphic that the Custom Shop won't do anymore. Anyway, I'm just so glad this is over. Once again, my complaint is not the wait time. If I'd been quoted 24 months up front, I would never have complained. What I was pissed at is the incorrect expectations Charvel set. I will say that Mike McGregor helped me when he saw my posts and of course, so did Curt, who went well beyond the call of duty or I'd still be waiting. The Custom Shop also did a very nice thing for me in terms of a feature I wanted for the guitar, but didn't want to spend the money for as a sort of apology for this guitar being delivered so late. I definitely appreciate that.

Here's hoping some of the others who have posted in here will start receiving their guitars soon as well.

                          • After even a year that guitar better be the end all be all...After 25 months, they should be knocking something off the price.

I worked for the 1st Jackson dealer in WI back in the mid 80s. The wait was 18 months at that time, and dealers were getting full retail of $2400 for a Soloist. Jackson was pumping them out so fast that the clear coat on the headstock faces was not fully cured and as they installed the tuners the clear would bunch up around the washer.

Even still , they are night and day better compared to what the C/S is putting out today.

For that kind of wait...I'll order from GMP.

Thats interesting. I've been buying charvels since 82. And I find their quality as good if not better now than its ever been. And why wouldn't it be. Same people same machinery and tooling. More experience. It makes me laugh when people spout generalities with no basis of fact.

                              • I bought that NAMM 7 string one hum flat black CS strathead. It was garbage. The string height at the 22nd was at least 5mm, and the fretboard had buzzing issues, so I asked for an RMA the same day it arrived. They took it away. Good riddance. It was a POS.

My red CS Charvel... god the thing is freaking amazing. I was worried about the neck profile... it's dead on CJ even though the volute and headstock are Fender, not Jackson. The acoustic sustain and presence is amazing. Plugged in, it sounds great and plays fantastic, exactly what I was expecting with the first one.

So the Charvel CS is still hit and miss, IMO, but that's from my sample size of 2.
