Maybe i should 0000 steel wool the MIJ neck and put on 2 more coats of the BC tru- oil then add the casey wax as a finish? I want them to feel the same My MIJ is also slightly thinner from from to back but that is a plus to me always been into the super thin flat necks

Pro-mods and other imports with natural necks are rough because the factories are cutting corners. Even USA Charvels have natural finishes that aren't as well sanded as they used to be either.
Hit it with 0000 steel wool, then 1500... if that's not enough you can go to 2000 or higher. I go up to 2000 grit, personally. The 2nd Amendment: America's Original Homeland Defense.

The MIJ is a great playing guitar it just is a little rough with the finish which we all know is a easy, inexpensive fix.
Thanks for the help.

I took the advice from these guys and sanded my MIJ ProMod neck because it was rough too. Do it, you won't regret it!
Instead of steel wool, I used finishing pads from StewMac. Started with 2400 or 3200 and went up to 6000 until my neck was smooth and shiny. Feels great! Might leave it bare, or might hit it with gunstock oil.

Back in the day I sanded the finish off of my Aria Pro II neck and used lacquer sanding sealer, did the fine sanding and then a few thinned coats of lacquer over top, with buffing and polishing between coats. Best feeling neck I've had to this day.Last edited by Hellbat; 09-20-2012, 04:35 PM.GTWGITS! - RacerX

thats odd, I had a USA promod 1 and picked up a pro mod import neck, I thought the import neck felt smooth and slightly better finished than the USA. use scotch brite pads not steel wool, steel wool shavings/dust kills pickups. I use it to polish frets too this way i dont have to tape off the pickups. I use a MATCO, oil as well, not even sure of which one its a red & white can. works great, nice finish not tacky at all

Although the USA's are initially smoother and the skunk stripe sometimes sticks out or is recessed in Japanese Pro Mods, I don't know what the fuss is about. Mine all go shiny and glass like after a month or so. So much so in fact that they start to get sticky and you'd swear they were laquered and need rubbing down again, and yes I do wash my hands. I've always been amazed when buying used pro mods USA necks that actually have fret wear that are like new on the back of the neck???You can't really be jealous of something you can't fathom.

The skunk stripe is not perfectly uniform with the maple? I had to re-sand mine because of this?
Sorry but even cheap ass squiers do not have this problem, these pro mods are the first guitars ever i experienced this on:think:
