    I've seen the portraits.

Guthrie is a top man and possibly second only to Paul Gilbert in skill.
Actually played that fretless Vigier with him at a guitar show too. The strings are basically printed onto the neck. Lowest action ever.

I'm not a sig guitar guy so i'm not really interested in getting whatever it is Charvel will be making in his name but good luck to him and Charvel.
Suhrs are amazing but Guthrie would make a piece of shit Schecter sing. Charvel will definitely sell a ton of guitars in his name and yes of course he's being paid.
I agree with everything you said. My favorite guitar player is Uli Jon Roth but I can't deny that Paul Gilbert is so incredibly talented. They should do a G4 concert with Vai, Satch, Govan and Gilbert. I think if they did that, Vai and Satch might give up guitar.

I'll take that, but replace Guthrie with Jeff Loomis.

I'm sorry, but G3 with with Eric Johnson and John Petrucci was fuggin' boring!

        I'd love to see this.
Gilbert brings some life to the group.

Ask Uli who he'd rather play with Jeff or Guthrie? He LOVES Paul G!

Saw Eddie couple years ago. Sorry I thought his playing was sloppy. I have seen him be brilliant though. But there is no best player. There are many many good ones in lots of styles. All depends upon your preference from what I find. EVH can't play like Alvin Lee who can't play like Shawn Lane who can't play like etc........
Many styles are equally hard to play. Ever see Brett Garsed ?? Buckethead anyone ?? Flameco perhaps ?? Lots of unique stuff out there all good.

Anyway, that Charvel looks spectacular that Guthrie has. I don't need any more guitars but man I am tempted. Course I would have to make a few changes and I'm sure that would not be cheap (like getting a custom headstock as I can't stand the Fender style). But a 24 fret Charvel ???? Yum.

Eddie could never hang on a G3 tour. Paul Gilbert certainly could. It wouldn't be fair to any other guitar player if Uli Jon Roth did a G3 tour.
After all... you saw what happened when the Maestro Yngwie J Malmsteen did G3. I actually felt bad for Satch and Vai. I really did.
Vai needs an engineering marvel of a guitar to get the sounds that Yngwie can get with a 22 fret basically stock Fender Strat.
Satch isn't even in the same league and his tone sucks.. always has.

G3 tour is basically a metal parody of Friday Night in San Francisco, IMO.

Perhaps it is, but, it's the only way to see some great guitar players in one show.

I think that it'd be cool to see some other guitar acts get together for a night of meedley meedley meee.

I'd pay good money for a Gilbert, YJM, Uli show.
Or Guthrie, Michael S. and Holdsworth.

How about Rob Marcello on G3?

He's a fucking insane guitarist IMO.

I'd love to see Holdsworth. I've seen YJM enough. I'd like to see an Alcatrazz reunion more than anything.

The one guitarist I've never seen that I've wanted to see for like 20 years or so... Kazumi Watanabe... I'm sure most of the people here have never heard of him... and while he can shred, it's his melodies that I really love.

Eh. Sounds like YJM on amphetamines. lol Just like Guthrie, too much pointless shred for me.

There's a name I haven't heard mentioned for a long time! I remember a Guitar Player magazine feature on him, with a flexi-disc that I played to death.

My candidate for the dream G3 show would be Christophe Godin.

Amen Brother, I saw this concert live in FL.........Yngwie did make them look bad......However, and this has nothing to do with skill, but I met all three of them and Steve was by far the coolest.......

I've watched a few G3 shows on the Tube. I like how they play some older songs and put their spin on them. All of the shredders out there can't always do that. Like any gig, entertainment sells. The one I thought was the most entertaining was YJM, Via and Satriani. When they got to the end of some of the songs Via and Satch were still playing while YJM was swinging his guitar around over his head. Yes, I did laugh.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.
