I like Guthrie because he's not the same old scale running shredder. Heres a clip that good gets cooking at the 3 min mark

My philosophy from the very start was to let the product do the talking. We have thousands upon thousands of loyal and exuberant users. The pros that use our products constantly tell us how wonderful it is. Sure, marketing is part of the game but I do not believe in buying endorsements. The list of pros that use our product and can't publicly acknowledge that is probably longer than our official users. Chances are you've been to a concert recently and the amps on stage are only for show and there's an Axe-Fx II off-stage.

The Axe-Fx was a labor of love. I don't know why people keep trying to disparage us lately now that we've become so successful.

Second to skill to Paul Gilbert. ..Really. Only, because you know these people. No dispect to the mighty Paul Gibert. who should be the G3 pick. But his body of work is very shaky..at best.

I beg to differ..because I know many other players in the game.

Guys like Rusty Cooley, and Mike Romeo kill Guthrie IMO!, and they're still boring to listen to.

It's one of those hair tie thingies. He doesn't use a locking nut so that is to stop the strings from ringing on the other side of the nut and give him the ability to pull it to the other side to mute the open strings for tapping passages.

I used to tie a sock around my bass. It's a string dampener..invented and used by many players in this millenium.

To Drew..I believe the hair band thingy is known as a "Scunchy"..My dog Bella swallowed one once, and got sick. I did a Satanic Compassion Ritual for her and she threw it up. These are facts!

Rob Marcello owes his soul to Tony MacAlpine.

Yeah Bill, I would have called it a scrunchy too but I don't know if they are internationally known as that so I kept it more generic hehe.

Paul Gilbert for el Presidente, he has no equal! And yes, Guthrie is amazing a good win for Charvel.

Jackson /Charvel was for young metal fuckers. Guthrie, no matter of talent does NOT fit the traditional demographic of the Jackson legacy. IMO. He's also a gear whore. He jumps ship more than Mustaine/Lynch. No, he is NOT a good find. He's a fusion player at heart, and kids or metal players, such as myself give no shit about him or his music. He plays shred for the Weather Channel.

I'd MUCH rather have the great established artists that Jackson lost, than to succumb to the likes of elevator, fusion that would bore my parents. The ONLY significant win for Jackson recently was Chris Broderick..he is worthy to sport and continue what put Jackson on the map in the first place. I'd rather take Alexi Laiho back than this technically advanced NOTHING..because he's not a blip on the radar to those that made this brand what it is. If Holdworth, Gambale, MacAlpine, Poland, Drover, Loomis, and countless others jumped ship..what makes any reasonable person think our demographic give a shit.

Putting someone such as Gus G would have been a genius move, because it brings in a new generation from a tradtional old school shredder. Jackson Charvel is soooooo out of touch for the last 10 year..it's ridiculous. The Mark Morton is cool, simply because he respresents what we were 25 years ago..instead of endorsing flavors of the month..Trivium. That says it all. But even that is passible because ..he's metal for kiddies.

                            But Bill,
It's fair to say that there really aren't any young metal fuckers anymore.
The scene went to shit in 90 and most of what would be traditional Jackson/Charvel players moved over to PRS and Schecter.
Even at that, those sounds were more the dropped to shit, sludge that took over the scene after they put the nails in the Grunge coffin.

Gus would have been a good catch to a point. But, he's not exactly a young fucker anymore either. Plus Firewind, Where his music is lightyears better than what he did with Ozzy, is pretty much an unknown in the states.
Nobody seems to want to give Firewind a shot in the US. I wonder if that is Sharon's doing?

I agree with the 'elevator fusion' thing for Guthrie Govan, at least what I've heard so far. But, wow, the guy can play. I spent most of last night watching videos of him, and went to bed much later than intended. It's just as well he's chosen Charvel over Jackson. In the clip here he talks about 24-fret guitars, and says his is a grown-up guitar and therefore only has 22 frets (around 3:50s):
