  • NGD Found some NOS USA Pro Mods in a Dallas Shop

Finally found what I was looking for in my own back yard after scouring the net for countless hours,

There is a shop called Zoo Music (not affiliated with The Music Zoo at all) that has 2 stores about 5 mile apart in Garland Texas that still has quite a few new USA and Japan Pro Mods in stock, Both San Dimas and So-Cals.

They do not have a web site believe it or not! (probably why they still had so many) I called first and when they told me how many they had my mouth was dragging the floor as I was running to get in the car! Had to just drive there and I am glad I did!

I was fortunate to be able to pick through about 6 or 7 USA and Japan models and found a Yellow USA for $ 999.99 that just kills! It is perfect. Just absolutely perfect neck and fret work. Overall fit and finish is beyond outstanding. Can get almost any tone imaginable out of those Duncans through my Mesa RectoVerb.

They had a red MIJ San Dimas and a white MIJ So-Cal that almost went with me before I tried the yellow USA. Those three guitars were equally fantastic but I mainly prefered the USA for the color. Had I been a little richer all three would have come home with me!

The only issue I am having is keeping the trem bar snug, it keeps getting sloppy loose after use. I have had a couple of the Style 2 Tele San Dimas's that did the same thing. Any tips on keeping that thing snug would be appreciated.

I will post some pics as soon as I can figure out how. It says I can not post attachments for some reason?

I am a long time lurker - seldom poster. Great forum y'all have here!

For the trem arm, go to Home Depot and look in the plumbing section. There are packages of rubber rings that fit right over the sleeve for the trem arm. I forget the actual size to look for but, you should be able to eyeball it easily. The little ring will hold the trem arm screw tight and not let it loosen up.

      Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the responses guys. I went ahead and ordered the German Orig Floyd Arm assembly off ebay today. Hope that fixes it.

The rubber rings is a great idea though. If the new one gives me the same probs I will be making a trip to Home Depot. Thanks again!

By the way I have no affiliation with Zoo Music in regards to my original post. After I re-read it, it read like an advertisement. That was not my intention. I was just trying to give you guys some info since the USA promods are nearly impossible to find new. But they are great guys to deal with though who will work with you straight up.

That's amazing that you've found some NOS. I loved the taxi yellow color.

To fix the loose trem arm, pick up a #6 o-ring from the plumbing section at home depot. Here's a thread with more details on the fix

Scroll to the pictures half way down the thread.

Funny, I was there trying out some Charvels back in the spring of 2010 (I was there for a conference)! Couldn't remember the name, but I looked up the store with street view. I distinctly remember trying out a yellow USA. At that point, I had tried out several USA made promods and I never found any that were good enough that I would consider buying it, but this one kicked ass. I wonder if it's been sitting there since then. Congrats on the new guitar.

That would be crazy if it was the same one Javert, cause it does "kick some serious ass". Man I love this guitar!

The only reason I can figure out why they have so much NOS inventory is their lack of a website. I was shocked when I walked in and saw all those NOS Charvels, especially the USA ones. It was an awesome thing to have so many to pick from. I played every single one of them but the yellow one just felt and sounded right from the get go.

So nice to find "The One" ya know?

Yeah, I think the only reason I found it was that I had asked on here about stores in the Dallas area.

It's a good feeling when you find a great guitar like that.

Haha, speaking of that trip, I think I had the biggest steak of my life in Dallas. Can't remember the place's name, but it was at the center of town and had flaming torches outside... man, it was huge! I'm not sure I finished it.

Just to update, the German made OFR Trem bar assembly works like a charm.

Trem bar stays put with no play or wiggling loose. Quick easy fix and well worth the minimal investment.

Also just installed a trem stop (home made) and an EVH D-Tuna and this thing is ready to hit some stages and studios!

This instrument may be the most perfect all around guitar (for me and my playing style anyways) I have ever owned. And I have been through too many to think about.

Too cool. I found a few NOS Model series Charvels around 1992 that had been sitting in their cases untouched for years. I picked up a red M1 for under $200...loved that guitar.

The taxi yellow does kick ass.

Looks like I'll have to make a drive over to Garland. I love my 2 MIJ SDs. Want to play a USA model and see if I want one of those more.

There was another Taxi Yellow USA San Dimas that was new but had a couple of very small dings, barely noticable) that they were going to lower the price for me if I wanted it, and a very nice gold USA So-Cal at the original store just south of 6-35. And they had a couple of more USA's there too.

The other store had only one USA left if I remember correctly. But they had a white MIJ So-Cal that was just outstanding! Both stores had MIJ models too.

Hope you find something you like.

The other USA Taxi Yellow SD they had at the original store was an excellent player by the way.

Finally got over there today. Wanted to grab the Pagan gold they had but he wouldn't come down for $1099 so I passed. I would have done it at $999. The older guy seemed pretty cool. It's an hour and 1/2 drive to get there from where I am. They had a lot of cool old Ibanez V's and destroyers on the walls as well as some Tokai's. Wish I lived closer or I would have done a layaway or something.

Man that is a drag, only a c-note away and they would not deal? That was a great playing So-Cal that almost came home with me.

$ 999.99 is what I paid for my brand new San Dimas at their other store.

Sorry it didn't work out. It is about an hour drive for me too.

I am a little surprised to hear about any nos USA's! thats incredible after all the time since they stopped being sold.
I am lucky to have bought one USA before the stopped making them and a MIJ when they took over.
There has not been a single moment since where i regret buying these two which i got for a amazing price.
the USA cost me $750 new sans case and my MIJ cost me $774 with hsc.
two amazing guitars for the price i would have paid for one CS.
Not saying i dont love the shit out of the CS charvels mind you
I am still on a quest for a nitro relic
