As I said in my original post, the Explorer is a fake I made. I wanted a Charvel Custom Shop Explorer, but they don't make 'em anymore so I built my own. Warmoth body and neck. I was going to paint it myself, but I was having trouble with the paint cracking, so I sent it to Marty Bell to finish.

The headstock I did myself. Grain filler, then primer and white paint. I then had a full vinyl headstock decal made with the logo and applied that. 10 coats of Spray Max 2K clear over that and then wet sanding with 600, 800, 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit. Finally, rubbing compound and swirl remover to bring back the gloss/shine... You would never be able to tell that it is a decal and I didn't actually paint it...

Came out cool - got it playing and sounding great! Some people are offended by the logo, but it is just something I did for myself and I dig it... Here are some pics:

In fact if I'm honest I considered using the pic in your floyd post as a screen saver for inspiration as both these guitars are gorgeous. I sometimes get the pic of that Robins Egg Blue one on full and lick the screen of my computer.

          Quite sad isn't it.
The visual on that one is pretty funny, man! It's cool you dig the guitars, I really love playing them!

Any chance of getting more pictures of that twisted checkerboard?
Here's one. Quality isn't great, I'll take more this weekend.

The Robins egg and the nitro are the standouts. Congrats on finally getting your custom. I should be getting for more by June. At least that will be a full 2 years.
Good luck, man - hope you get yours in June at latest...

I love the look of vtrems. I so wish I could keep them in tune...

Damn Steve, that Explorer is cool. Love the graphic. Good on ya for making one on your own. I've done similar projects but as this is the Charvel USA section, I'll save it for another time/section. Suffice it to say that when a builder or pro mod doesn't offer what I want, I make it what I want. With varying degrees of success

I still want a reversed banana-style or reversed Strat headstock on my Charvel CS Star. I had to settle for a pointy on it. Same for the CS Jackson Star that's in the works. But as the Charvel is a bolty, I am so tempted to get a high quality neck with the aforementioned banana or Strat reversed H S and replace the Charvel neck. Problem is, the Charvel neck plays and feels so damned good! Can't imagine being able to beat, let alone, match that quality.

The necks on the White Nitro, Robin's Egg Blue and Jack Daniels are identical profiles - the Music Zoo Pre Pro profile - 1 3/4" nut width and fatter around the back than the Pro mods. Most comfortable necks I've ever played for my hands and they are all three KILLER birdseye...

Nothing like a old school san dimas...brings back some real good memoriesif you feel like it would be great to see some solo pics of it
i could use a new screen saver!
dont know if it is true but i had heard these are the closest if not the same to a original in feel and tone?
IMO build wise they nailed it!
