  • Anyone every stripped a Pro Mod body to bare wood?

If you have stripped a Pro Mod (US) body down to bare wood, what did you find it terms of the body wood. Was it 2 piece or 3 piece? How did the wood itself look? I don't expect the bare wood to look amazing on its own but I've got a project in mind that would require it to be bare wood with tung oil.

Likely 3 piece. When they first came out, I remember the Charvel guys contrasting the ProMod specs (3 piece bodies, some 2s) to cutom shop guitars (2 piece, some 1s if spec'd that way).

P.S. - although, I think they meant they used 2 piece bodies on the trans-finished versions.

Personally they are not the greatest facing wood IMO. I can see knots in my USA's and they are definitely 3 piece or 2 piece off centre. You might get lucky. Japanese ones are a bit better maybe. Don't know about the later trans finished Japanese ones.

In short, I wouldn't bother, not worth the effort, sell it and buy an aftermarket body.

I know that in general the least attractive bodies, wood-wise, get relegated to solid finishes but for this project that ugliness may be OK. Good to know what to expect though. Thanks for the replies.

I have had several USA pro mods and three appeared to be three piece. Two light parallel lines could be seen on through the finish.
No honey, I have always had this Jackson....

I will have to look at my dealer rep 08 to see if I can see a line in it.
              Never really thought about it.
              Really? well screw Mark Twain.
