  • Played a first gen SoCal today

Blame me for not knowing my Charvel histoy very well.
People talk about it like it is the resurrection of the earliest USA
    Wayne Charvel models.

Neck was way too fat, seemed fatter than most strats in my hands.

    Not for me!

    Guess I'm a "pointy fan".

My original run Candy Tangerine SoCal has a fat neck too... one of the reasons I never bonded with it.

My 1st gen's neck feels nice @ yes they are beefier than a pointy neck. Not by all that much tho'.
Main difference the pointy necks were a D profile the strat heads are more C shaped to me.
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

I never really played the USA's, I started with MIJ's and they feel great.

So the USA's are really that much different than the MIJ's in neck fatness?

The MIJ necks are def thinner, much better IMO. Though I did pick up a used USA neck off of the classifieds a month ago and its thinner than my original USA one too, so I think at best they are inconsistent.

Sounds like I would love the first gen SoCals. I prefer fatter C profile guitar necks. I love the Gibson '59 profile necks.

There you go, but it would be a longer 25.5" scale.
