  • 95 USA Promod?

I'm looking for a little input from the folks that know a little more about the lesser common Charvels.
I stopped into a music store a couple of days ago who happens to be a charvel dealer here and found a guitar they took in on a trade that I can't find in any of the catalog scans. I didn't have my phone with me at the time, so I didn't get a chance to get any pics..

They (the store) are calling it a 95 USA Promod. It's got the 96 san dimas style headstock just like my SDIII, it also has the correct neckplate for the time period with the serial number 950099 stamped on it. Finish is white, Rosewood or Pao Ferro Fretboard (not sure which) pickups are Dimarzios in the HSS configuration Wilkinson trem and sperzel tuners (according to the store, this model came with the sperzels)
I played the guitar a little and was pretty impressed, They are asking $550.00 for it (no case) and if it's legit is probably pretty in line I think. I need another guitar like a hole in my head, but I can't stop thinking about this one, probably because I haven't seen one like it and it's somewhat a mystery. Does anyone have any info on this model? Is it a mutt with a USA neck? That's not necessarily a deal breaker for me, but it would lessen the value I would think.

Edit: I don't have any pics, but I did find and ad the store posted on CL...

          It's a 96, not a 95.
The 95's had the better looking version of this headstock.

The 95 has more "material" on the end of it.

Notice the thinner end and the lower cut below the logo is rounded off on the 96.

You're right. Apologies for my confusion, having them side by side now, I can see the difference. I just went with 95 because of the SN

                    No worries.
Fender bitched about the 95's shape, so J/C made them fugly enough to get them off their backs.
This is why I would LOVE to find a first run PC1. It had the 95 headstock shape.

Well I got the new one home and set it next to the SD III and the headstocks are indeed identical. I bought the SD III in the spring of 96 from a guy that had bought it the previous year for his son. The son never took an interest so he sold it to me... Any chance they changed them sometime during 95? In don't care really, there's not enough of a difference in them for me to worry about it. I remember when I got it thinking the headstock was ugly as hell, but over the years I came to like it, probably because I hated Fender anyway.. LOL

Not sure of the exact date they changed it. Could have been towards the end of the 95 run, but there is a difference from when they were first released them in 95 and the 96 model year for sure.

For the record the pro mods were introduced in 2008 and had a strat headstock.
Pretty cool find those are nice guitars.
Pull the neck off and check the date to be sure.
                              Really? well screw Mark Twain.
