  • NCD - '06 Pointy reissue Charvel - 1 H w/ Floyd

Just got this minty Pointy from a CL seller. Barely used, it has no fretwear, neck is super clean, body looks new.

Great thin D neck, and with the ebony board, it feels really smooth! I usually don't like thin necks, but this one feels right. I'll probably change out the Duncan Custom 5, maybe for a Custom or Distortion. I'll think about it.

Action is super low and buzz free. I would say the quality is better than the USA Charvel Pro Mods, maybe on par with the USA Select stuff from Jackson.

Sweet score. That's a great guitar as it stands or the basic for a nice customized axe. I bought a white one just like that and I've just started the process of customizing it (neck humbucker and refin with graphics).

I wouldn't route it for another pickup, but may put a zebra humbucker in to add a bit of contrast, and install an 80's black Floyd, etc. Since it's NOT a vintage Charvel, the sky's the limit on mods, I say!

Nice score! Those necks were nice, not real thin, but about the thinnest I like these days. I remember someone from Jackson said they were similar to the "speed neck" profile of the King V that Dave Mustaine prefers, and my '05 Star felt the same. I also took out the C5 from mine since it was a little scooped in the mids, and a DiMarzio Tone Zone sounded great.

I agree, boarderline too thin, but wide enough to be comfy.

I am leaning towards a Duncan Custom (since I have one lying around) to replace the C5.

Exception for a rare exception, I don't like playing single pickup guitars so that's me.

It's not vintage now but it will be someday.

True, so changing a pickup is all I will do to this future classic!

The regular Custom should work pretty well. I've heard great things about them, and I did have a 7-string version I put in an old Schecter that sounded great, but I've nerve tried the 6-string model.

The Charvel pointy necks are more like a Jackson DK1 than the speed neck profile. Great stuff. And +1 to a Duncan Custom. Highly recommended.

Congrats on the new score. Looks great.

Thanks! I'll give the Cutsom a shot in this guitar. It does sound great in my PRS McCarty.

Congrats! Those are great guitars. Love the neck shape on them. I have the exact same one and swapped out the C5 for a Custom. Like others have said, highly recommend the Custom.

And here's what mine looks like now after Dan Lawrence refinished it with a graphic.

I think the DK1 neck is actually a little bit thinner, unless the Charvel profile varies a little on some guitars. I clearly remember McD or Bionic stating the "reissues" were very similar to the speed neck profile, and my Star definitely had that profile.
