  • Props for my CS Star: Old News

It's no hot news flash that Charvel CS has put out some absolutely killer axes, both in aesthetics and in function but I gotta crow a bit about how fucking killer my Rising Star plays, feels and MOST importantly, whammys. Seriously, I cannot adequately articulate how amazing this ax plays especially in terms of the whammy bar. Yeah, it's an OFR and there are millions of other out there similarly equipped and set up (floating, 2 springs, big brass block yadda yadda yadda) but this thing is super responsive. Playing it is a wet dream. The guys at CCS knocked this one outta the fucking ball park.

It makes me wonder; out of 14 or so high end axes I own with similar set ups, how is it that this one has such unbridled Floyd mojo? What did the guys in the CS do to make this truly a custom order in every respect, especially in the Floyd? Precision placement and sinking of the post anchors? Maybe it was a "lucky" Floyd bridge with higher than usual manufacturing quality? Except I recently replaced the initial Floyd with brand-spanking-new Floyd with a brass big block on it. Newer posts, newer knife edges= better responsiveness. Regardless, it is my Excalibur of Floyd Rose dedicated shredders. My greatest wish (right now) is that Jackson CS can create the same mojo in their upcoming Star.

So, what about the rest of you? Any stories of axes with truly awe inspiring Floyd mojo?

Honestly...that first and foremost is just badass no matter which way you look at it! The fact that it plays just as badass as it looks ...it's just icing on the cake.
    In other words...Cool guitar man!

Thanks, but by that same token, a badass looking guitar that doesn't play for shit and sounds just as bad is pretty near worthless.

Anyone out there, who's as demanding and finicky about their trems as I am, have a holy grail whammying ax? Given that this is a Charvel USA section, probably best to list those first

I don't know about the Floyd mojo itself, but do agree that some guitars just have something extra special about them. Even among my customs, there's a select few that have some extra killer mojo sauce about them that -IMHO - sets them quite above the others. Part of it is wood, part is hardware, and part of it is just plain old intangible.

I will say, though, one thing that seems to elevate consistently is having a top notch set-up. Some guitars are very much in-the-zone, and others are just spot-on perfect, unsurpassable. I've certainly had a couple of guitars that came from the custom shop excellent - or maybe later "settled" to something less than that, due to environmental factors - and I then later had a local luthier reset them. And he has consistently just absolutely nailed every single set-up factor to bring a "very cool" guitar up to "holy f**king s**t, that rules". LOL That goes a long way to making a guitar special, IMHO.

I've never had a problem with any Floyd trem I've ever owned. I have a ton of old Kramers Baretta's and Stagemasters and my 3 Jacksons have Floyds. I love the Floyd and I think if you have a "Real" Floyd Rose trem and it's installed properly and then set up right you can't go wrong. Awesome star by the way bro! I love the Red logo and the paint. Plus I think the Rosewood board is so classy looking on that particular guitar.
This is what I think of Gibson since 1993. I HATE BEING LEFT HANDED! I rock out to Baby metal because Wilkinsi said I can't listen to Rick Astley anymore.

Thanks, Bear R. It's a custom order so, it is rare to the extent that it has my specs. Funny thing is, I came up with the graphic from messing around on the generator. Not so rare graphic- LOL But if you think this one is rare, just wait 'til you see the Jackson Custom Shop Star they're hopefully building for me (assuming they don't screw that one up) THAT graphic is VERY rare.

Sometimes, everything comes together just so and the guitar becomes a phenomenal one.

If you find that, keep it and play the shit out of it.

That happened to me with my DK2.. Bought it used.. played ok.. stayed in tune great but the rear humbucker had no balls so it wasnt played much.. one day I got so sick of how it sounded... I looked in an old box of pups and found an old gibson humbucker.. wired it up and it sounded phenomenal to my surprise..took another 2 to 3 years to get around to change some hardware out, rewire it with a few mods.. etc..I still need to replace the neck SC.. add one more switch..

killer guitar.. dont think I will ever get rid of it.. Hard to explain but ive bonded with it in such a way.. it's apart of me.. never had that experience with no other guitar.. LP,SG,Strats..
