  • A few pics of the 8th batch slime green

I'm not sure exactly what it is about these Charvel's that makes them so good but I honestly think they are a steal for the price and play just as good as any high end guitar I've ever owned. It can hold tune like a champ and take pretty much whatever the player demands of it. I usually play in open C major but I've tuned the Charvel to Eb and installed a Bare Knuckle ceramic Warpig in the bridge to push as much tone from the guitar as I can. A few adjustments on my amp's treble controls will tame the high output Warpig and I can get that raw alder sound without it being too trebly. Things have gone so well with the Charvel I'm not even using my OD pedals anymore. I'm just very happy with this guitar even though I prefer flying V's more than anything else.

Whatever Charvel did to these strat's was right on the money IMHO and this one is a keeper. Please excuse the smudges and dust, I've been playing this guitar a lot lately.

They're well made and made to the "right" specs. I've bought three of them so far and love them. They're generally inexpensive ($850 on average) so they make a great platform for custom builds. The net result is a guitar that plays just as well as a custom shop for a fraction of the price, for me at least. I don't know how well the Mexican ones are selling but Charvel never should have stopped selling the US ones. Oh well, they made enough of them that they're not hard to find.

Personally I 'd like to see that green So Cal with a white pickguard, white pickups and chrome hardware. Chrome goes a long way to giving them an old school feel, IMHO. Case in point - this is a Production Model I customized.

If I owned a promod, it would have to be that slimer.

I agree the USA's are a bargain and mine would be my "go to" guitar if I was still playing in a band. It would be my main. Charvel could have charged $1600 and I would have paid it to get the slimer. It's as steady and reliable and sounds as good as other guitars I've owned that were 3 times as much. I've even seen a few go for sale used at $600 so whoever bought those got themselves a real sweet purchase. I would like to get my hands on a Candy Plumb though.

I like your idea about the pickguard mod. Maybe even a vintage white or creme would work? I agree about the chrome hardware having the old school vibe.

I know! The players with the Candy Plumb's do that to me. An RR1T will leave me in a coma if I see one.

There is a Candy Plum on Ebay right now...

I'm kicking myself for not buying a Slime Green when I bought my Candy Green. I decided between the two when I should have just bought both!!!

                          More!!!!

This Charvel is my main, it worked its way there with solid tone and reliable tuning. Do you all think I should keep the Bio-hazard sticker on it?
