  • Quality of the new Pro Mod's

    Hello everyone,
I play a 2013 San Dimas Hard Tail in Candy Apple red. Rosewood finger board Humbucker Single coil Stack configuration.
As nice as it played it was really light feeling. The body felt almost like a hollow body. You could really tell the difference in weight from the neck to the body. I don't ever remember such an experience with any guitars I've owned over the years.

It also had some paint flaws on the back which looked like mild stress cracks but not through the clear coat.

I'm just curious about the quality of these guitars. At the price points I would assume they would be slightly better built feeling and looking. They look amazing with the cool colors and such but the quality is in question.

    Thoughts?

This is the one I played today. If you look at the finish, you can see straight lines in the paint. You have to hold it underneath the lights to see it. It's way worse on the back. It changed motivation to bring it home which sucks as I kinda had my heart set on it. I would like to own a hard tail and this configuration is perfect.

I bought a new Dreamsicle which has the same bridge, and it wouldn't intonate on every string with 10's. I had to return it.

I bought that same guitar through Musician's Friend and returned it because I thought it was way too light. I own a USA San Dimas and So Cal and they have some weight to them.

You realize these are imports, right?

Why do people equate weight with quality in guitars? My Charvel 25th is a light as a feather and is my swamp ash Strat. My LP Classic is on the light side too (it's a '92) and all those guitars sound great.

Personally, I won't buy import Charvels, even the Model series from Japan and I know they're great guitars. Charvel is an American brand so I want my Charvels to be American made.

I agree. Except, obviously, for the trem. The best Jackson/Charvel trems were made in Taiwan.

Lightweight guitars often bring a premium for many brands/models. I play standing up a lot of the time, so I personally prefer lightweight guitars. Why fight a boat anchor if it's not necessary?

You may want to double check that.

The Dreamsicle's had a different bridge. The bottom edge was thicker.
These are std hardtail strat bridges.

That said, my Dreamsicle's bridges intonates well with a 9.5 hybrid set. Where did you find the issue with 10's?

I know it may just be the lighting in the pic but the board on that neck looks wicked dry.

My USA Pro Mod (2009 I think) has lines like that, one each side where the 3-piece body is joined. It must be due to the thin paint (mine is 'flat black' finish), but it is only visible at certain angles.
I don't have any issue with it, but then it is a different model, sort of designed to be modded:
