  • USA promods (non CS stratheads) info request

I've got myself all confused about the production strathead Charvels that started in 2009 or so. I loose track of which are USA and which are 'imports' etc .

I have a chance to grab one for what seems like a silly price, but I never really followed these. Apart from the shitty knob, how are they? What were the pickups? Do the USA guitars say 'made in USA' by the logo, and the imports say something else?

If the guitar was made in the US it will say so on the headstock and on the neck plate. The same is true for Japan and for the Mexican Pro Mods, the neck plate says "Made in Mexico" but there is not "made in" of any kind on the headstock.

The pickups on all of them are good (Dimarzio or Duncans). The US and Japanese are overall much better quality than the Mexican made ones.

Easiest way to tell them apart is the Grover bean-style tuners on the headstocks of the USA pro mods. Very good quality guitars. Not up to custom shop levels by any means, but lots of bang for your buck.

I thought the worst part was the tuners. They looked wrong and felt chintzy to me. And some guys don't like the Korean Floyd. I think they're pretty good, wouldn't go spending more just to swap it out for IMHO a marginal improvement. And some didn't like the Dimarzios in the So Cal models, but I dig em.

      Good stuff.

Just a few things to add. USA came with gig bag, MIJ came with hard case, MIM do not come with case but not sure about gig bag. Also the MIM ones only come with Duncan pick ups. I have a MIJ wild card and have no regrets.

$500 sounds like a Mexican Pro Mod but if you can't get good pics be wary.

It's pink and he says it's a 2009 if that helps any. I think it looks like the candy magenta, wherever that was made..

Yeah, that'd be one of the USA pro mods.

If its a candy magenta usa promod, its a steal at $500. The usa necks alone sell for almost that on ebay.

I had a magenta and it was a USA.
The USA run came out in 2008 just for the record.

                          Trans Kandy Magenta

                          LOL

I bought that guitar and it's a very nice USA Wild Card #1!

It's in perfect condition. Hang/build tag, warranty, floyd bar, and strap locks in the sealed bag along with the gig bag.

                          BNIB 2009, SN 0064xx.
