I'm wondering if there is much difference between the body of a model 1 from the early 80's to a new custom shop. I own two custom shops one alder and a mahagany both strat heads, 1 hum and floyds but don't play them as there part of my collection. I love the feel and sound of them both. I own a model 1 as my playing guitar and put a full shred, floyd and a wd strat neck on. My question is if I were to put a custom musikraft neck on it with all the same hardware as my customs would this guitar be fairly close to my customs?

The Model 1 is basswood, so there will likely be a tone difference due to that, but if you like the tone you're getting now, you should be good to go. As for comparisons about the quality of the guitar vs. a custom, there are going to be differing opinions about how big the difference is, but one concrete thing I know for sure from seeing quite a few stripped bodies is there are Model Series with up to 5 piece bodies, and you aren't going to see that in a custom. Wood is going to differ from guitar to guitar, but the custom shop is and always was more selective about the quality of the wood.

Thanks for the replies! I like having a nice sounding guitar that i can play the crap outa and not worry about banging it up. I have a problem when it comes to guitars cause I like buying them and keeping them mint lol. I have The two custom shop charvels, a jackson, a les paul custom, American deluxe and American std strats, a lynch esp. I appreciate the info on the model series cause I would have never known about the fact that the body could be up to 5 pieces. I might just buy a warmoth or american strat body and musikraft neck and put my parts off this model 1 guitar on it.

Ferrari up on blocks, guitar in a glass display case, hot virgins, there's always a "collector" with the wrong idea about something.
Worried about dinging your guitar? Learn to fucking play instead of jumping around like a spaz. Keep your kids in check and the guitars away from them until they're old enough. I honestly don't see the problem with keeping guitars from getting damaged. It's not rocket science.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
