Hi all, I purchased a loaded 84 Charvel body that had been re-painted a few times and in the proccess of striping the paint off I came across what looks to be a EVH B/Y paint job,... serial # 4158, Hope that maybe someone on here might know this guitar... would love to see a picture of it before someone striped it off and repainted it,... What type of paint was used on the original B/Y EVH's,..was it Nitro? All the pictures that I have researched show a white primer, yellow base and tape off black, cant tell if they have a clear top coat or polished out color.... and what is up with the black sharpe marks along the side of the neck pockets that I see in almost every San Dimas Charvel,..what purpose is it for? Any help would be great!! For some reason I am unable to post pics,.. going to work on that...
Thanks
Ruben
Thanks for contacting us - This is Dan's wife Kim, I apologize for our delayed response - it's been a very busy month for us. I talked to Dan about your EVH restoration and he did NOT work at Charvel back in 84; he said as far as the colors go they were Cardinal lacquers and they did use some urethane base colors; base primer he believes was a grey sanding sealer by McFaden he believes. All top-coats were urethane clear they didn't start using poly until they moved to Ontario, CA in 1986.
