  • USA custom shop 9660

Anyway to determine the body wood for Charvel USA Custom Shop Serial 9660? It is not on the reference chart but seems to fit in for 2014.

From what I saw so far:
    San Dimas Body
Maple neck and board (maybe 1 piece)
    Black Floyd, Non-recessed
    Black Floyd Nut
Black Tuners, possibly Charvel branded Grovers
H - S pickups (SD rail type in the neck, standard HUM in bridge
    3 way switch
    volume only
    Strat headstock
    Flat black paint
Modern Charvel Headstock Logo (Black print/paint)

I remember a run from Music Zoo that had those specs.

from this link, note the middle guitar at the bottom of the page. Has a 2010 date in the name:
Charvel’s U.S.A. Custom Shop builds the very best of Charvel’s top-line best for the world’s great artists and for you. Many of the talented craftsmen who started it all are still here—creating the epitome of Charvel style and performance at the world’s first and longest continually running custom shop.

When you click on that flat black guitar, the description references the Muzic Zoo run:

      Thank you for your help,
Yes, aside from the guitar I am looking at having an all black bridge pickup it does look identical.
I would think 9660 is a later run because on the Custom Shop Serial Chart the numbers close to 9660 are from 2014.

This is promising because I was basically hoping the body was anything but mahogany. The store won't help in finding out the body wood and I cannot see it in person but they do offer a return policy.

Time to flip a coin to see if I really need it. Just got a USA select Matte Black Hard Tail the other week.

The Grover tuners would be a red flag for me. Although not unheard of on custom shop guitars, I've only seen them used a few times. The vast majority have either Schaller or Gotoh tuners.

Grover tuners were, however, used on USA and Japan Pro Mod guitars. So I would be concerned that the neck may have been swapped out, or the guitar was just not custom shop as described.

As always, buyer beware. Good luck.

Thanks for the note. I may not know my tuners as well as I should.
