what makes the san dimas models so wanted compared to say a model 3? Is it all hype or what? I am perfectly happy with what i got and do not see a need for spending so much for a san dimas model.

lol, i guess alot of it is hype, or just feel. I am happy with my guitars that i have now and i prefer the headstocks on say a model 3 comapred to the older ones.

Siggy none of it is hype. Most of the Charvel San Dimas models, the original ones not the mid 90s reissues were hand built custom guitars. Better electronis, better hardware, better woods all went into the SDs. The model series were made in Japan mass produced guitars. There is no comparison between the two. Now the Charvel model series are very well built, quality instruments. I have had several of the model series Charvels still own 3(3A,4,375), but once I purchased a real SD all of my guitars were placed in their cases. I haven't even thought about playing them the SDs are really that good. Tommys not joking they are magical. By the way your head stock is just like the San Dimas models that were built from 83 to 86.

Mud thanks for the info maybe some day i will get a chance to play one, but for now i wont purchase till i get that chance. The new reissue's, are they being hand built or mass produced?

you can do great with a model series charvel. The onlt issue is really the sticky finished neck. But several passes with a 2000 grit sandpaper make it all better. I would replace the JT6 with a OFR or buy a really old Model and get the Kahler Pro

i am not a big fan of finished necks either, dont flame me but i have a ibanez custom from the late 80's with a unfinished neck, and it just feels oh so smooth.

well thats why you sand the back of it with the 2000 grit. gives it a unfinished feel....

Both Import and USA are worthy. One is collectable the other is not. I have played many San Dimas guitars that just "suck" and have yet to play a truely poor model 2.
