Re: Charvel San Dimas V Specs?

                        Oh well,

After talking to this guy over the phone i thought it was a Charvel Traditional, as the one in the 95, 96 catalogs (thanks D.M.!)

But after seeing the axe, i'm a little confused.

It has three Di Marzio Pickups, same as the traditional.

First weird thing about this guitar, the original owner sanded the Charvel Logo...

Neck is quartersawn maple and fingerboard is rosewood, same as the traditional...

Another weird thing, to me at least, it has a Jackson 3D plate with the Ontario Address and serial number 002241...

Last weird thing, the inspection card names the model as San Dimas V (now i get it, this a 5 not a "V"), finished on October 27, 1994 (that's should be the reason it doesn't appear in the catalogs...).

Another thing that doesn't match the Traditional is the 21 frets...

So, maybe this is a traditional body with another neck??? I don't know too much about Charvel guitars so please, i would love to find out what the hell is this!.

                        Rodrigo.

Re: Charvel San Dimas V Specs?

it's very cool looking...the 21 frets is a headscratcher tho (prototype maybe?)...the dots look right and a number of early sd series guitars did have jackson plates...770 might be a little pricey tho...try and talk him down...but in the end i gotta say...if you like it, then it's worth it...d.m.

Re: Charvel San Dimas V Specs?

As some of you know I collect the so called reissues. That is indeed a Charvel five. They have a Wilkinson instead of the trad trem. The cable plug in is on the edge instead of the face of the body. They all have the skunk stripe neck and the Jackson plate because they were built before the Charvel plates were finished. And according to an old e-mail I have from Jackson back when they would talk there were seventeen of them made. There was at least one red one, and I had a translucent green one that was destroyed when my house burn't. I also have a sunburst one like yours. At most there are sixteen left. Hope it helps, Dana
PS all the plates I've seen were in the 2200 range.

One more thing. The red one used in the catalog is a five. It was used to advertise the traditional but differs in all the above mentioned features from a trad. They were kind of a prototype that was changed to the trad. HIH Dana. They are rare and if the price is reasonable grab it. They also use different pickups than the trad.
PS. They also play much nicer than the trads.

Thanks a lot Dana! That was helpful. Just one more thing, what about the 21 frets? did yours have that same number?

I'm thinking about buying it right now, but i need to get some money first... Lol!
